I am new to this site! I always wanted a Golf GTI since the 80's but as a lowly apprentice it was never gona happen. Now I have progressed from a Mk7 GTD to a Mk8 GTI club sport. Fantastic to drive but the infotainment!!!!! OMG! Back to the workbench VW.

Hi Andy welcome.  Hope you enjoy the mk8, software issues aside! This is a good site for info and just general talk about gti and gtd. Like you I had an interest in the golf from early on and test drove a mk1 gti in Gemany in1979 when they first came out but not enough cash until recently. Enjoyed the mk6 for the 11 years we have owned it and no significant problems unlike some. The mk7.5 after a few  months ownership is proving almost as good - seats take getting used to but everything else working well. Think I will wait to try the mk8.5 when vw have taken note of owners niggles as you point out - back to the design department vw.
Mk6 GTI Carbon Grey, 2010 Bluetooth and voice fitted, a few VCDS mods still a comfortable family car. Red Scirocco 2011 twin charger stage 1 - enjoyable drive now gone.  White 2016 Polo GTI (roller skate on steroids) replaced with an Indium Grey 2019 7.5 GTI PP.
