Pat's Accuair'd GTI
« on: 28 April 2012, 21:56 »
Thought I may as well get a thread up and going

I have owned my 04 plate GTI (AUM) for a roughly a year now, it stayed pretty much mod free for most of that whilst I just collected parts.
Having had a Bora on air suspension I knew from the get go that was what I would be doing with the Golf so I started saving and eventually everything started to come together.

Will be quite a pic heavy first page

First of all the obligatory "the day I bought the car pics." I picked it up with 40,000 miles on the clock so drove like a new car.

The first mod was to get rid of the headlights as most will know the standard MK4 ones are pretty useless. Saying that though they are quite an improvement over the Bora's.
But anyway, always loved the look of the OEM Xenons so managed to pick up a near mint set for a very good price.

Next on the list was the seats, Again I managed to come across a good deal on two front r32 seats. Still by far the best thing I have changed on the car, they are so much comfier than the standard sport seats and way more supportive over Recaro's. For anyone on the fence about them just do it, you won't regret it

Once the above was done, that's when the parts hoarding began. So over about 3-4 months I got:

Genuine Anni skirts

Not pictured, genuine Anni rear valance (tdi version)

A Votex front valance

I attemted to spray it myself and went horribly wrong, so it's still in my garage waiting for some money to get it done properly!

Also got some US Spec rear lights too

And then came the really important stuff!

Air suspension specs;
Airlift XL's and Airlift performance rear bags
FK rear shocks
5 gallon skinny tank
Accuair E-level kit with remotes
380C compressor, only one for now put a second is defiantly on the cards

And then came the wheels, again got a insane deal so these were just too good to turn down

They are OZ Futura's;
9j fronts et 20 with 205/45's
9.5j rears et 23 with 215/45's

One of the main reasons why they were so cheap was the previous owner decided to rattle-can them matt black

So with all those bit's collected that leads us onto the fitting which was done about a month ago, Massive thanks goes to Jaimie, Shammy and Stuart Tate (although all he seemed to do was ruin Shammys DA pads )

Anway first on the list of jobs was to split the wheels and get paint stripping

And by far the worse job in the world, Stripping/polishing 140 bolts!

We then sent the centers to be powder coated Peal light grey so in the mean time we cracked on with the install which was a true drive way special

Pretty sure we got the front to go low enough!

It was then time for some good old fashioned ghetto arch rolling

Which lead me onto driving too low

And all the above lead to this (bare in mind the Votex front and anni rear valance are yet to go one and center caps for the wheels are yet to be sorted)

And then last weekend the Golf made it out to it's first show outing that was Springfest at Santa pod, was a great day until I had discovered that I destroyed a front dish on the drive over!!!

God knows how it still held enough air to drive home.

But still managed to grab a few nice pics of the "good side" of the car

Which leads us up to present, I'm currently waiting for a new Dish to come from Germany so as soon as that is done the wheel will be split and fixed and back on the car ASAP.

So after enjoying the car for all of 2 weeks I'm now back on the Monty 2's temporarily until the OZ's are sorted

Proper sweet ride fella shame about the dish, those temps(wheels) just look so wrong but as you say as soon your new dish from Germany comes in all well again

Got any plans with the power?

Brilliant first page to a thread. Looks like a good car you got yourself as a base to work from. I like the wheels you've picked - shame about the damage. Hats off to you too for working through the nuts and bolts. I'd have just given up and chucked them all in an acid bath or painted them myself.

Only thing slightly off for me is that the rear axle doesn't quite fit in the rear arch but I understand that's just a Mk4 thing.

Looking forward to reading more

Cheers dude. Yeah it's not cheap, but like I said above I got a few very good deals which always helps

May as well

Thanks dude, yeah driving on the Monty's is a right pain as you can't get low enough and turn corners lol

Eventually yes, coming from a 1.6 with 100bhp 150 is enough to keep me entertained. I tend to drive so low that the last thing you need is to go lower
Saying that though I would love to get this to Stage 2 eventually, but will hopefully get to stage 1 in the next couple of months.

Ah man those nuts and bolts took me about 5 hours to do, luckily it was sunny and my girlfriend was kind enough to keep me stocked up with Jack Daniels

Yeah quite a lot of people don't like how mk4's sit on air, I kind of like it but apparently there is a way to fix it which I may look into. IIRC it's a plate that you bolt to the hub however it also acts as a spacer and to counteract the the spacing they add 4 degrees of camber which is going to destroy tires way to quickly seeing as I do 50 miles a day.

Awesome build

Cheers buddy
