It has quite an aura this car. I wonder how different it is to drive from a normal GTi.

Having viewed it, it's a fair summary, I was slightly surprised at his reaction to the drive considering he actually owned one previously?

You asked how it compares to the regular GTi?

Here is a post I made after driving a forum members CS-S back in 2016, while I owned a mk7 PP.

The CS-S made an impression on me, i have subsequently driven a few more. The lack of rear seats was a deal breaker for me as I already have too many impractical 2 seaters.
I ended up buying a Cs with the closest spec i could find to a CS-S, with added practicality and adaptive cruise! :)

Sounds like a goodish investment.... he mentions them retailing for about 40K now.

Obviously mileage dependant, everything has jumped up in recent months.
A friend had his 1200 mile car for sale in Q4 for £35k without any buyers. Which has turned out to fortunate! :)

Thanks for posting the link, clubsport- that’s an interesting read.
I think volkswizard did a video on this, concluding as you did that the css needs to be on track to really reveal its potential

Part of that is down to the tyres. I don't know if you have much experience of driving on track, but the cup tyres change their behaviour with heat in them, they have a "window" as it were, where they offer an enhanced performance. before deteriorating.

That is mostly pointless on the road, as Volkswizard didn't seem too upset the factory car came with more road focussed Pirelli.

One of the biggest thing you notice between CS & CS-S compared to the regular GTi is the effect of the larger turbo.
The larger turbo engines rev more freely in the upper rev range, where as you feel the regular GTi has given it's best in the mid range.
Yes it is the same turbo in the CS/ CS-S as the R, but the lighter cars feel like they pick up better. That is comparing manual gearboxes, the dsg have their own characteristics to add to the mix.

That was a good video, makes me want one!

One of the reasons I changed cars. Although I don't push my cars often, it was annoying with the PP when things were just getting exciting and the engine ran out of puff.

Me too. But I know it’s the ordinary gti I need.

The engine is- in keeping with the rest of the car- the perfect compromise. Torque low down, efficient, and just enough power building to keep you interested when you rev it.

My daily commute is on fairly busy a and B roads, with traffic occasionally thinning enough to enjoy the odd bend. I often think the pp is the ideal car for this use.

It’s a special car.

At one point it was the perfect partner for my GT4.

I’ve given up keeping the miles down on the CSS now as I’ve decided it’s a keeper and who cares how many miles it has accumulated.

Mine is number 114 I think!
Miles about 22000 now. (10,000 in last 6 months!)

Yes Indian Queens VW in Cornwall did the service for the advertised price.
