Intercooler damage

Probably a stupid question but I just want to reassure myself that the damage seen in the picture below to the intercooler is nothing to worry about and can be left as is?

There doesn’t seem to be any perforation just bending of the fins?

Nothing to worry about really, its the thicker horizontal tubes which carry the intake air, the fins are there to conduct the heat within those pipes away.

You could use something, not sharp or pointed, to tease the fins back into the normal position if you wanted.

This is an intercooler off a Transporter which has split the actual intake air carrying tube.

Holes could be pinhead size and the gas escape.

Is the aircon still working? Stick it on max and does it blow icy cold still?

My last Mk7.5 had a holed condensor just before I traded it in. Aircon had totally stopped working.

Its an expensive part to replace, luckily the dealer didn't notice

Air-con rad with a hole in loses all the refrigerant and hence no cold air.

Are you sure? It looks like the aircon condenser. Fairly certain the intercooler is behind that even on the mk8.
Either way, aesthetic damage to the fins won't cause any issues.

Looks like the air con condenser to me too. It’s definitely mounted in front of the intercooler in the Mk7
