3G T-Roc/Passat Pretoria Alloys an alternative?
« on: 22 February 2021, 17:10 »
Is anyone running the Pretoria alloys from the 3G Passat? Part No. 3G0071499 2ZT

They definitely fit and can run the standard 225/35R19 tyres with a little stretch, they will sit naturally 6-7mm further out being ET44, should be a bit stronger (due to being made for a heavier car) and are much cheaper than the lightweight Golf Pretorias.

I'm assuming the only drawbacks are they're probably not forged lightweight alloys, if you want to keep the speedometer correct you'll need to run the 225/35R19 tyres not the suggested 235/40R19 as they will throw the speedometer out by 4.55% you could run 235/35R19 with a 1% throw however.

I'm not running them, but one of the drawbacks will be running stretched tyres together with your wheels sitting about 6mm closer to the kerb.

They're cast rather than flow formed, so there will be about 10kg additional weight, but the savings over the Golf R version make them quite tempting. I'd also expect them to be a little more robust than the Golf version too.

I previously ran the same spec BBS CI-R's (8J ET45) and found no issues with the stretched tyres (225/35R19), however I do prefer the look of the normal tyres over stretched. Surely they'd be a similar weight to the Santiago or Brescia options at around 12-13kg an alloy? Especially for those that would normally go toward the replica route that just want greater durability.

Aren't they quite expensive?

I'm sure you could get something else better fitting and lighter for about the same money?

Or are you laser focused on its got to be a VW branded part?
Current: Mk8 GTI DSG, Adelaides, DCC, HUD, HK, Winter Pack, Rear Camera.. Aka "HMS Weasel"

Gone: 2017 Mk7.5 GTD,manual, NavPro
Gone: 2014 Mk7 GTD, manual, NavPro, DCC

That's exactly them, good spot. Would love to know which tyres he went with as they look like the 235 width.

The Passat ones are £1,400 for a set of 4 vs the Golf ones which are around the £3k-4K mark iirc. I'm not focused on any alloys but for those that want to retain their existing pretorias this is a more suitable option, compared to replica alloys. As well as providing a more aggressive look without the use of wheel spacers.

The golf ones will be expensive because they are forged. Any forged nineteens are going to be expensive.

If you pause the video at 2:11, he is running 235/35R19.

They'll be similar to a Santiago or Brescia, but they are wider than both those wheels (8J vs 7.5J). I think the Golf R Prets are approx 10kg each.

Say 12.5kg - 10kg = 2.5kg per wheel × 4.

Roughly 25% heavier.
