Well "I" didnt do it myself!

Today though, a drive up to Birmingham, came home with a hi line reverse camera fitted, also I now have a "boot pop up lid"! fitted too.

Nice day for a drive, not much traffic too, bonus!

I am interested in getting one of these fitted, can I ask who fitted it and the approximate cost?

It was done by V.W. Retrofit U.k  They are in Redditch in Birmingham.

They have a website (also one on facebook, with lots of pics of work theyve done...My car is on there! White G.T.I. showing the boot lid opening!).

On their website, it shows their prices (fitting is included in the price)  The boot  was £89  the hi line camera was £450...  Not particularly cheap of course...But I wanted them both done!

It was done in just over an hour too!

On the Mk8 the reversing camera is £315 from the factory, so £450 for a retrofit doesn't seem too mad to me. Especially since you're getting the hi-line version. If you're happy that they did a good job then it's money well spent 👍

What other options are there? Are there two types of reversing camera?

Just washed car before it goes into dealer tomorrow (never like it to go in dirty in case they wash it!). Found what appears to be a major oil leak under the engine.... so fingers crossed it is nothing major

What was the oil leak issue? All sorted?

I have literally just got my car back after three days in the dealership... They removed the gearbox and it turned out to be quite a major job to replace the rear main crank seal. Apparently this is relatively common on Mk7/7.5s.

Thankfully my VW all-in warranty covered this fully, as would have been over a £2000 bill! Cannot recommend the all-in warranty enough!

Great that it was covered by the warranty. I would be interested to understand how the dealer calculated that cost. I would check your engine oil level too as they did not replace mine and it was just above minimum. Did they give you any route cause feedback? Mine was due to a blocked breather pipe.

Just to give you a rough idea on time involved, when the dealer replaced my clutch they said the repair time for a clutch replacement was about 9 hours labour, as it included a 4 wheel alignment due the subframe being removed.

Once you've got the gearbox out and flyweel off, replacing the rear main seal is not a big job.
