Today I fitted a Boomba Racing Short Shift to my GTI.

Installation was super easy and took less than 10 minutes. The adapter plate reduces the throw by 28%.

The results are great! Feels really good, super smooth and very precise. Well worth the £93.50 asking price IMHO. :grin:

28% seems to be just the right amont to take off, wheres my laser card?

I think I've found it.

Part #8J0-711-046-E

Looks a bit more complicated to fit and only reduces the throw by 10-15% max.

The Boomba Racing adaptor plate can be found here in the UK;
https://www.sico-developments.co.uk/collections/volkswagen/products/volkswagen-mk7-golf-gti-short-shift-transmission-adapter?variant=27419652232

No parts to remove and super easy to fit, armed with this information before purchasing I think I would of still gone for the Boomba one as the many reviews are so good.

Click the link below for more info and videos from Boomba Racing.

I knew there was one (S3/TTS one is a straight fit) but this only seems listed on the darkside developments site as Mk5/Mk6. Are you sure it's this one?

I'm unsure.

Found the info here;
https://shopdap.com/store/oem-euro-short-shifter-8j0711046e.html

Having just traded in a 2013 SEAT FR the gearbox on my GTI feels approx. 10% shorter, perhaps this part number is already fitted to our European cars?

Just done some searching and that looks like the part people have used to shorten the throw on Mk7 GTIs

I was looking at this mod with the VW/Audi part but since I don't race my car and it doesn't get abused, it looks to me that the best mod might be just to replace the bushes on the shift mechanism.

https://www.awesomegti.com/shop-by-brand/42-draft-designs/42-draft-designs-shifter-bracket-bushings/

But I'm put off at the thought of having to drill some of the original parts. I found this thread though that has an excellent fitting guide and it was on a MK7 GTD:

The other issue appears to be that unless you are careful you can have gear selection issues afterwards requiring the cables to be reset. Still, if you are brave seems a good cheap mod.
