Title: Complete lack of interest in Stock Hatch Championship
Post by: Fred Flintstone on 26 May 2005, 23:22
Before I delete my membership from this forum, I just wish to comment on the total lack of interest in anything to do with Stock Hatch.  This section is supposed to be dedicated to motor sport.  We are racing the ONLY VW GOLF in Stock Hatch and have started several topics regarding this effort.  We are competing with modern French 106s Saxos, and various Ford cars with some success.  Why is nobody interested?  Are you all just boy racers with trick paint jobs or are there any serious enthusiasts out there.   The lack of interest on this GolfGTI forum is a mystery.  Is nobody aware that the Stock Hatch Championship is THE most entertaining track sport event in the country.  I give up!!!

Thanks for your support, but it seems more people are interested in rolling roads than proper racing on this forum.  I think I will stick to the Club GTI forum who actually get involved and attend the meetings too.

Complete childish post from you there mate.

So what if we are more interested in Rolling roads? Does it make us any less of an enthusiast just because we don't feel the need to rag the tits out of our, well maintained and looked after motor cars?

It doesn't detract from the fact that you are having fun, and yes well done for doing it, and competing against other "hot hatches" i know i would love to do it.

HOWEVER!!

A majority of us on here do not feel the need to flex out ego by attacking everyone who does not have the same interest as ourselves. By the same logic a lot of us do not have the income or the desire to take part in a real racing series, forgive me for saying but i think you need to take a step back and realise that attacking a community of fellow enthusiasts to try and get some attention is just a tad, "2 year old tantrum" esq.

Good luck on CGTI, that place is falling apart at the seams and on a side note, there are only about 10 if that people that post on there and actually track their car, me knowing about half of them. The others as far as i am aware haven't actually even put their cars near a track, nevermind raced it.

Like i say well done on the acheivement but tbh you have now throughly put me off the idea coming to see you or your son take part in this series as imo you have given me more than a insight into how you all behave.

I.E. if you don't get your way you all start shouting and crying until someone takes notice.

Good luck.

Why? I am genuinely interested to know? All the above points i have made, are based on fact.

If the best you can come up with is "i rest my case" then it sounds like my points have been more proven than yours.

Hang on a minute I thought this is the 'Track days and motorsport' topic.  Does this not contradict your comments, which I may add seem a bit more hysterical than my original observation which started this thread.

Hang on, you were the one that decided to brand each member as a "trick paint job" boys. All because you posted in a section that isn't well populated, which obviously means that a lot of the people on this site do not use the area.

So from that you decide to throw a hissy, about how we are not enthusiasts.... you basis of fact being???  :undecided:

Correct me if i am wrong but the whole "GTI" scene is more than just racing, as i am sure you are aware due to posting on CGTI as keiths dad. I have been in this scene for over 9 years, does that make me any less of a enthusiast than you just because you race the cars? where as i repair and maintain them?

I think you need to realise that just because someone does not regard what you do in such high respect does not change the fact that they love the car they own just as much.

Can I just say, your original post was not just an observation, it was full of poor and (clearly) obvious offensive sweeping statements, hence the reaction you have received.

You started your post "Before I delete my account..." which clearly shows you had thrown your teddy out of the pram before you even started the thread.

Yes it was posted in the motorsport section, and there is a motorsport section for people that want to use it. It is not obligatory for all members to read, and posting here will not guarantee you feedback/help/attendance, just like it won't anywhere else on the forum.

Many people post threads that get no interest mate, its the way these things go. But you shouldn't expect to be able to make a comment about everyone being boys racers, just because we don't want to come and watch you without receiving the appropriate backlash

I think you need to calm down a bit.  Take deep breaths and exhale slowly.
1/ I posted my comments on the motor racing section.  That way I am assuming people interested in motor racing look at this bit.
2/ I did not suggest anyone else actually do it, only that they may wish to support it because we are the only VW Golf in the series.
3/ My original comment was not aimed at you personally but a general observation.
4/ Get over it,  I have, because of the interest your insistence on starting an argument has caused.

Your original thread was also posted just 3 days ago, its not as if it has been weeks since you posted!
Title: Re: Complete lack of interest in Stock Hatch Championship
Post by: S11EPS on 27 May 2005, 13:30
No one is trying to cause an argument, least of all me. I'm merely trying to point out that regardless of where you post a thread, it is not guaranteed to get a respone.

Therefore posting a thread labelling everyone as non-enthusiasts or boy racers just because you didn't have hundreds of people offering you support was inflammatory - surely you can see that?

As slick says, the term "Enthusiast" covers a broad spectrum of people and interests. An avid interest in motorsport is not obligatory to enjoying and being enthusiastic about one's car, so its natural people reacted the way they did to your post.

Title: Re: Complete lack of interest in Stock Hatch Championship
Post by: Agreeable Slick on 27 May 2005, 13:32
I'm not starting anything, i actually want to find out about your basis of fact for calling us all "boy racer" esq enthusiasts.

I think you need to re-read all of my posts concerning this topic, i haven't once felt the need to put you down or call you a name, i am however "trying" to have a discussion about your sweeping generalisation.

Your sarcastic funny man comments of "take a deep breath ........ " are a bit pointless as i am offering you questions to answer and all you can do is take a swipe at me.

Yes, you posted in the motorsport section, the fact of which it is not very well populated escaped you before you thought it would be a good idea to make comments which branded the entire forum community.

Agreed you did not suggest anyone else did it, but then because you had no replies from the original post you started on the "trick paint jobs" line. Was there really any need for that comment? I think you will find the answer is no.

Either way the questions still stand. If you would be kind enough to answer them and provide a factual basis for them then i am sure we can get all of this sorted.

all just boy racers with trick paint jobs
is quite a sweeping, and tbh, offensive statement. If anything, this is probably an image that none of us want to be seen as  :undecided:.

By all means, post about stuff on the forum, but don't get out of your eggshell about no one being interested. FFS.

OK now it's calmed down a bit, I just feel I should calmly reply to the, amazing deluge of complaint about my original comment.  (By the way I have re registered to do this, hence the change in name)

I DID NOT SAY ANYONE WAS A BOY RACER WITH A TRICK PAINT JOB.
My actual words were, and please feel free to check,

"Why is nobody interested?  Are you all just boy racers with trick paint jobs or are there any serious enthusiasts out there.   The lack of interest on this GolfGTI forum is a mystery."

So I am offering a sarcastic answer to my own question in order to invite a reasonable reply.  There is probably a name for this if anyone has an 'A' level in English grammar.  This is then followed by the mystery statement.  Why anyone should be so sensitive as to react in what I think is a totally over the top way is amazing.

I keep going back to my original post to try and find something which could upset someone so much.  Anyway, I still stand by my original comment and am delighted so much interest has been generated.  If someone has been offended then please accept my sincere apology.

Sorry I didn't reply sooner, got a bit caught up in defending myself.
Yes, up to 1600 8v and up to 1400 16v
Ours started as an 1800 GTI car in it's previous life, we simply blueprinted, lightned and balanced a 1600 lump and put it in.  I agree good MK1s are getting rare, but you can obtain any MK1 donor car and simply make it comply with the regs.
Thanks for the support, and hope you get a chance to come along to some meetings this season.  The next one is 19th June at Brands.  Cheers

Fair play to you coming back on and I'm sure most on here will accept your apology if they were offended. I felt offended by your comments as others did, especially questioning the enthusiasm of users on this forum but that's by the by now. Please stick around and join in the forum and you will find that more and more people will become interested, I'm guessing here, but you probably have a good technical background if you are involved with track days and racing and may have knowledge that could help other forum users with technical problems etc within other boards.

Well for the second time I do apologise I did not understand your post obviously.  I am not winding anyone up deliberately, and I am getting increasingly amazed at the reaction from members to what was a serious comment which has been MISINTERPETED as insulting rather than a ' hey there is something worth looking at here' subject.  To everyone who has been offended I will again apoligise for any offence caused.  None was intended.

I totally agree.  I do not wish to insult anyone.  But I'm not going to roll over and be insulted by other members without replying in their own language if need be.

Look, I have apologized now 2 times.  If that's not enough then what more can I say.  I think I have explained why I made those comments and if misunderstood what they meant.  Clearly I was annoyed when they were made, although I will not retract them.  I should have been more tactfully in the phrasing but what I said was not aimed at any individual.  When members of this forum reply with masked obscenities do people expect me not to react.  I feel some of the replies have been far worse than my original post.

totally agree with defending yourself but surely you should think that,as a newbie, people are not going to understand you as much as people would, say me,for example..and obviously people are going to think your on a wind up mission when you post what you did on cgti...
we can either go around in circles or drop this..its entirely up to you..

Hey look, I don't wish to continue what was said or how it was phrased or who was right or wrong.  I think I said the wrong thing and got bollocked for it.  I think other members said stuff which was well out of order and was arguably worse than my original post.  But when all said and done we got a really lively thread going and maybe we all got a lesson in decorum.  So nobody start posting stuff to get me going again!!  That's a joke!

I feel some of the replies have been far worse than my original post.

its actually twice, so i do actually know proper english and grammar thank you...

and i have never bought a tracksuit, nor do i wear caps...yes i am young, but i can, if desired, show a hell of a lot more maturity than it would appear you are able to!

here is mr smith's reply....he is obviously too shy to come on here anymore...

"OK thank you for correcting my grammar.  Sorry if you were offended.  Sorry if your maturity was somehow put into question.  Yes, I am immature and don't deserve to be in the same forum as you.

Regards
Paul Smith"

i was only joking with all of my comments...jeez!

I think that in the light of what 'Fred' has said about not continuing this discussion, the time has come to lock this thread.
Points and appologies have been made and IMHO enough is enough.
