So a quick update on my stolen car.

As expected, it has not been recovered and the insurance have paid up. TBH, a lot more than I was expecting, which was a nice surprise. So now looking to replace it.

I popped in to my local dealer and they had an 8.5 GTI in the showroom. I must admit, the changes are subtle, but very effective. The rear lights look particularly good, and the front is much improved - reminds me of my 8 Clubsport. Even the Richmond wheels are not as offensive in the metal. And the infotaintment screen is not as bad as the photos out there would suggest. It does not obstruct the view in any way and it's much sharper and much more intuitive. The sliders for temp/volume are now SO much easier to use. Hopefully the bugs will have been fixed as well with the new software.

So all in all I think the standard GTI is now quite a compelling option, especially with the increase in power. I would not have swapped my Clubsport for one, but given the situation I think I'm going to go for a bog standard GTI with just Moonstone paint to keep it under the dreaded £40K. I took a couple of pics of the car in the showroom which was Dolphin Grey.

Would definitely get some additional security on this one.

Would they not do you a deal for that showroom car joet?
There are quite a few en route to dealers, base spec, various colours if you look on VW UK’s website and no doubt a few more already in showrooms. Work through all the dealerships until you grind out a deal.

Yes, I've noticed that there are quite a few coming through. I'm going to see what I can work out.

So sorry to hear about your awful experience. Its always distressing/infuriating to hear about some low-life's stealing peoples' pride and joy. As said, beef up your home and car security as these scumbags will be expecting you to replace it with another performance car. Lots of options/issues involved, but that is a whole different thread.

At least you got your insurance money through fairly quickly. Did you have a GAP add-on?
Agree with you about the new 8.5 GTI. It looks more impressive in your photos than on the configurator.

Nice - if I honestly dont think the 8.5 CS is worth it over the standard GTI now. The CS is the only variation getting no power increase and getting in sub £40k is a great saving. Standard GTI all the way for me
