Its a pleasure from NE Scotland
« on: 03 March 2022, 20:36 »
Good Evening All,

I am now back to the VW Golf, but this is my first GTi. From 2000, past VW / Audi cars include (but by no means exhaustive):-

94 / 95 Audi 80 Sport (x 2)
03 Golf mk4 TDi 150
07 Golf mk5 GT 170 (diesel)
60 Audi A3 Black Edition TDi (12 months)
12 Golf mk6 GTD (9 months)
13 Golf mk7 GTD
66 Audi S1 Competition 5 door  (8 months)
65 Golf GTi PP

There is also the odd, 84 MG Metro, 88 Escort RS Turbo and 91 Astra GTE 16v to throw into the mix somewhere along the lines....

Cheers fella !

There is of course the occasional modified 1.2 Metro with a 1.3 engine & lowered & stiffened suspension, the (bulletproof) Honda Integra 1.6 (+ pop-up headlights), XR3i and a (very electrically iffy) Citroen C2 VTS. Then of course there is all my Dad's cars......

Welcome. Saw the XR3i on your list. Had one of the last ones built from new with the efi engine that Ford produced to compete with the gti. Drove rather well with bilsteins fitted and the Astra GTE mentioned brought back a few hairy memories!
Mk6 GTI Carbon Grey, 2010 Bluetooth and voice fitted, a few VCDS mods still a comfortable family car. Red Scirocco 2011 twin charger stage 1 - enjoyable drive now gone.  White 2016 Polo GTI (roller skate on steroids) replaced with an Indium Grey 2019 7.5 GTI PP.

Yeah, the XR3i was a nice wee motor but unfortunately met its' demise on the Isle of Skye. Going round RH bend, gripped a bit too much and rolled over the crash railing. Ended up +/- 75 feet down the side of a pretty big hill. I'm a very lucky boy. The GTE 16v was a blast with adjustable KONI suspension. Slackened it right off one day, for absolutely no other reason than I could - common sense escaped me that day. Then went for a blast. Took a left hander at "just over" 60mph and then remembered I was running full soft   The car bucked and kicked its' way round that bend for what seemed like an absolute bloody eternity ! That was around 20 years ago and that memory still sticks with me to this day !!

Hey Fella. It's actually a very nice car to be in and also to push on a wee bit. Having the PP / LSD is a real novelty having always had FWD cars and expecting the mandatory understeer. Just had 2 x new Asy 5's fitted to the front and running new Conti Sport 5's at the back, grip is (and should be) high. Very impressed so far. I only pray to God that I don't have the same repair bills with this Golf like I did with the Mk7 GTD; that came to around £4.5k over 3 years (after the 1 year approved warranty expired of course). Onwards and upwards !

Hi Dazie00. Cheers fella, nice history yourself there !

Well, no immediate plans to mod the GTI, but I have tentatively been looking at a possible re-mp (Revo ?) and the obligatory uprated clutch. I'm in two minds to be honest, but once I start looking into things, very rarely do I go back the way...  Watch this space...
