The forum is 10 years old today.
I can't understand where the time went. In 1999, golfgti.co.uk went live as a list of useful VW links. It was something for a VW and IT nerd to do with his spare time. I started getting lots of email, from people searching for car parts, looking for info about their (almost new!) mk3 GTI's, selling their car, or, more obviously, just wanting to chat to fellow enthusiasts. Car forum's were thin on the ground back then but the one now known as golfgtiforum.co.uk went live on 6th May 2002. I wondered what would happen next. I had no promotion plan. No strategy to target other forums to chase members from. Slowly it built. Internet friendships evolved - some people I have still never met in real life and perhaps never will. I have attended so many VW shows, made real friends, got drunk in a field plenty of times. The community sprit of this place keeps it all alive, that's why 10 years have passed so quickly. If you have made a positive contribution along the way - thanks.
1.5 million posts, 153 million forum pages loaded, £4.5k raised for charity in the last 3 years - 10 years of help and sarcasm.

10 years well spent! Apparantly i registered in Jan 2004, but i was definately here before then, was that when it all got updated and the old posts went?

Seriosuly though, this place has been invaluable and I've made some good friends and met many people. In fairness I've been pretty distant lately but I've stayed lurking in the shadows. I love this place and I love most people on here, even if the feeling isn't mutual.

And thanks for 10 years of hard work. I can only guess at the amount of time administering this forum has taken. And the amount of cost in hosting too.
I have only been here a few weeks but this place has already been invaluable in helping me to improve my (nowhere near new anymore) Mk3 Golf and has a great sense of community.

10yrs is some going for any forum, nevermind one started as a hobby. Great thing is the site still has the same atmosphere its had from start which says alot

In work last night I was talking to a friend about a Ford forum that he HAD TO PAY TO USE :shocked: I didn't even know that charging for forums existed! I was shocked at thinking that I may have had to pay for all the info on this place! I will 100% be donating to the forum charity to say a little thanks. So yea...Keep up the good work! :smiley:
