Hey Nick

I made the switch at the start of April and haven't had a regular cig since.
You'll soon discover that there is an absolute mire of info out there on the topic and all the different types of kit are mind boggling.
I started of with a kit but soon junked it in favour of component parts to tailor it to my tastes and usage.
The first thing you want to do is find an e-liquid that you like and start refilling your cartomisers when necessary. This will save you a fortune as the prices on replacement cartridges is extortionate.

I've been through many different liquids and without a doubt the best is el toro cigarillos from this guy:

http://www.houseofliquid.com/default.asp

You can get a 10ml sample bottle for about £7. I buy it in a 50ml bottle now at £20 a time but it lasts about 6weeks.
Georgio definitely deals in the best liquids on the market, only trouble is they are very moreish :/

As for kit, use this website:
http://www.vapeescape.co.uk/
Everything you could ever need and at a good price.

When at work or the pub I use a combination of this battery:

http://www.vapeescape.co.uk/innokin-510-batteries-%2Ablack-%26-white%2A~305

With these cartomisers:

http://www.vapeescape.co.uk/kanger-510-sr-cartomisers-horizontal-coil-%285%29~261

They are the best I have tried giving nice warm vapour, plenty of flavour and an absolute fog of vapour.
Each one lasts 1-2 weeks topping up the liquid at the end of each day.

When driving or at home I use the battery from this kit:

http://www.vapeescape.co.uk/the-sd-keyring-ecig~266

With one of these as the cartomiser:

The battery will last a couple of days and a fill of liquid about 3 days.
This is an absolute pleasure to 'smoke' even if you do feel like an old man with a pipe and look like a bit of a knob!!!
You can fill a room with vapour like a warehouse party in the early 90's with this bad boy :)

Good luck with it, if you can gets to grips with it and find some kit you like it really is a good alternative.
People don't bat an eyelid down the pub now they are used to it. Infact the landlady is happy for me to stand at the bar puffing away although I still go outside with the 'real' manly smokers so as not to be a loner inside!!!

Cheers
Toby

You smoke.

The "Scientists" say you will die sooner.

Reality says you'll live as long as your body will let you.

Just smoke or don't, don't piss around with fads.

I quit for four months, then started again during the euro's when I was drinking a little too heavily, as you do!  I'll do it again before long. I've tried the gum, lozenges, champix tablets the lot. I had quit for a few months twice previously too though. I used patches those times, and they worked for me. I used the patches for a week this last time, and used the tampon looking things to aid it afterwards. I used them for about 2 months, and finished with them when the second box ran out. As said, don't give up giving up if things don't work for you. You do need will power, so if its not working out, move on to something you get on with.
