Title: Arrival of new clubsport
Post by: kitbag1984 on 02 October 2016, 02:08
So I should get delivery of a new gti Clubsport by the end of the month and want to start its life in the best way and get a new car detail but I have a few questions.

1) does any know a good retailer in the midlands?
2) dealership have stayted that they won't clean the car but that they can't remove the wraps as they need to check for damage. Does this sound right?
3) is there anything I should look out for as I presumably can't then claim for anything being wrong once I've driven it off.

Thanks

Hi

1) Sorry, don't know but hopefully someone in that area can help you out.
2) Yes, it is quite reasonable of the dealership to want to remove the transport wraps in order to PDI the car properly.  When I collected my car, I had them remove the wraps but not prep the car at all, including leaving any glue from the wraps on.  They were happy to oblige.  I detailed it myself.
If they can't remove the wraps and there are any issues, you might have difficulty getting them to accept this as they can argue that they were unable to properly PDI the car.  One thing you can do, is ask if you can be there to remove the wraps yourself, I know some have done this.
3) Make sure you thoroughly check all over the car, inside and out.  Much easier to sort any issues if they are noted at collection.  Not impossible, but harder to do this once you have signed for, and driven the car away. Easy to get caught up in the excitement on collection day, so do yourself a list of things to check, so you remember.

TBH, if you are getting it pro detailed from the start, it's not so much of a concern about dealer prep, as the detailed will sort any minor paint (swirls ec) issues out with the new car detail.  But IMO, still better to skip the dealership prep anyway.

Oh, and don't forget.....we want to see pics when it's all done.

Morning

Looking forward to seeing the pics as im yet to see a CS on the road.

Retailer:-

https://birmingham-detailing-shop.myshopify.com/collections

Or if you fancy a trip to Derby:-

https://www.shopnshine.co.uk/

This is where I'd go as they have pretty much everything you'll need.

Detailer:-

http://www.atd-detailing.co.uk/

They are next to shop n shine in derby - they do some awesome work!

If that's no good then bring it to my house and we'll do it together! I know a little bit about these things

I'd expect the dealer to take the wraps off as they have to check for damage themselves as the manufacturer will argue that its not their problem of they do not.

The paint can be sorted quite easily so id focus on damaged trims, the things that will be a PITA to argue about after you've driven off.

Hope that helps?

Hi wo-wo. Thanks for this info. Atd looks good. It's my first ever step into detailing.  I want to get it done right first time then will learn myself.

The dealer has said that they will take the wraps off. I guess I will feel under pressure in handover and want make sure that I don't miss anything. Is there anything else that people miss?

More than happy to bring it round then you can show me how to detail properly! 😃👍

Just to add I live near Burton on Trent, not Cheshire if that helps. Only 40 mins from the Ricoh Arena.

Another detailing question: the  supaguard thing they have offered covers the internal side as well. If I am getting the external done proffessionally is it worth letting them have a good clean of the interior and ally their own protection?  Ps it's getting close now. Should be arriving in uk today or over weekend. Woo hoo!

I wouldn't have them do anything if you are so concerned. It depends too if you are planning on driving the car straight to your detailer too. If you're not then it might be nice to at least have the interior looking nice, so let them do it. Just check the trims well before you leave the dealership.

I personally wouldn't have them do the interior, I would either do it myself or if I was having a pro detail, I'd pay a bit extra and get them to do the interior too using a fabric or leather protectant on the upholstery as well.

Thanks for the advice.

As an update I have found what looks like a reputable detailer who will coat with Gyeon mohs which seems like what I want.

It's getting close now. 😃  Handover Monday. Straight to the detailed who will be doing a full job and coating so geoyn MOHs for a pick up on Thursday.

Hopefully that will give the car a good start in life and allow me to explore detailing the car myself. 😃🚗

Looking forward to seeing her - I followed my old Edition 35 for a couple of miles last night which was very odd, but good to see she is still being looked after.

Strange isn't it when cars return, its happened to a few of my dads cars, his nova reappeared after about 15 years in hiding, someone near my mum owned it, i saw his leon fr in leeds twice after it had been sold two years earlier, the R reg passat ended up 2 miles down the road afer a few months in wales apparently, and i work with a bloke who now owns the 56 plate passat my dad had.

I just cant seem to find the one i want, chosen one, the capri green mk2 (H463GNC). rrrh.

DW05 should give you 5% discount on www.cleanyourcar.co.uk website. I've used this one, and the code works.

A couple of others. Not used these but they're currently being promoted on the websites, so should work.

10% discount at www.perfectlycleaned.co.uk - 10DISC

Discount between 5 - 10%, depending upon amount spent; http://dooka.co.uk/index.php?route=information/information&information_id=10

Morning, I've replied to your email separately but for assurance I have asked the warehouse to investigate and someone will revert back to you asap via email.

Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for bringing it to my attention.

Regards

Thanks Neil. Have just come back from poundland(!) where I ha picked up some microfibres cloths. Hope they don't do any damage. This is annoying but I don't want to pay twice and have limited days (and weather) to do my cleaning.

Hi

We’ve checked the stock here and the count is correct – so the only explanation I can offer is that someone else has received your MF cloths?

So I have picked another set and included a couple of foam pads for the inconvenience.

Thanks

Neil

Thanks Neil. Have emailed you

Just to say the car had come up really nice. Wowo products are really good quality. Would have taken some photos but as I spent most of the day on it, it was dark by the time I finished !  CSG is definitely a good Colour!
