would it be a strght swap or more involed?
-
I think you'll have to middle with your ECU.
-
big job?would i need any other parts?
-
All that work, I'd do something special to the car. Try to get an Audi S3 engine :)
-
havent got the cash
-
why not repair the engine you have with the block sourced by Rtech, wont have to worry about ecu and key issues plus you have a new car at the moment to run around in anyway
-
a friend said the head might be fooked and that all the work involed it would be easyer to get a hole new engine?am i being lead up the garden path?
-
also how hard would it be 2 replace engine with the same egine and code but with my ecu and all my other oringal parts
-
no in one sense, it is usually cheaper and easier to fit a recon/ 2nd hand unit, just a simple in out job plus ecu and wiring  However, if funds are tight overhauling your engine will be better (as long as you got a mate or the experience yourself) as if it goes into the garage the labour bill will outway a 2nd hand. but if you overhaul you can do bit by bit, plus you can save a bit as the head, and all auxillaries may be ok just the block,

yeah get a basic engine and all your parts, alternator, starter etc can be carried over, or sell the car to me
-
so your sayin d.i.y??
-
havent got the knowledge to tell ya the truth
-
guys at r tech said he found me a bottem end would that b all that i would need?
-
yeah bottom end (complete) head will be off to swap so when it's off get it to your local engine machine shop get it pressure tested,
-
sounds like a plans cumin together
-
yeah if it was me i would go for the rebuild bottom end, you know the rest of the engine has only done 70 odd k if i remember rightly from your other posts.
-
i was told piston rings may need changing plus crank shaft needs checking plus whole engine would need looking over to find out what went wrong in the 1st place
-
oil pump failure, causing seizure maybe (obviously havent looked at it) wouldnt need to worry about piston/rings as you would be getting a replacement bottom end
-
havent lookd at it if you havent guessd iam not 2 gd with engines lol
-
have you any friends who are fitters who can help?
-
would piston rings cum with the bottem end then?
-
no i have no friends lol
-
ha ha, thats why your on here all night LOL
-
I have not read the whole thread, but - I had a snapped cambelt on my A3 and done severe damage to the engine. I bought a Seat Engine and my mate mixed and matched parts and it resulted in a fix. I think mine was a AGU code too, so I believe these are all compatiable.......................
Good luck anyway.
-
lol i just dont no what 2 do anymore stick 2 my 1.4 polo
-
ha ha
-
its true!
-
well if you dont have any fitters as mates then it could be costly to do this job

Cost me around £900 at the time (7 years ago) so depending on what type of engine you get, ie miles and history (got mine with 25K for £650) you can do this cheaper but you may not be able to guarantee the engine. I also bought other parts whilst I was at it, exhaust etc.
So, basically if you don't have mates to help out, it may cost ya! :undecided:
-
dam
-
so whats your plan mate are you going to price up the work
-
yeah xmas is called of this year lol
-
no tree or mince pies for you then
-
so anyway would the a3 engine with the same code go in?
-
anybody?
-
and also if i got the engine out of a golf with the same code would i need the ecu or would mine work with it?
-
and also if i got the engine out of a golf with the same code would i need the ecu or would mine work with it?
think you'd still need it coded - not entirely sure
as for an A3 - you would need clocks, ecu etc i think :undecided:
-
coded?
-
coded?
as in the immobiliser part needs to be coded etc which could mean you'll need the keys too but i'm not 100%
have you tried a Google search?? :undecided:
-
no what if i had the ecu with the new block?
-
no what if i had the ecu with the new block?
should be plug and play :undecided:
think it all depends on the year - mine has Immob III clocks which i believe means the immobiliser is built into the clocks and not the ECU
If you have Immob II clocks then the immob is in the ECU or vice versa
again not 100% i'm afraid mate
-
all i no is ive had a offer of a block with same code as mine with ecu mines on a w plate
