The glass comes up with the bootlid, unlike a saloon (i.e Bora) upon which the glass stays in place as the bootlid is opened

Also did you replace the pickup or just clean it, is it an easy job to do as I am approaching the 75k milestone and this seems tempting.
Wayne, can you give me an idea of the economy you're getting out of this and what sort of driving you do? Very very tempted to get a red one of these. So much car for the money.
Nick
Just ordered a new front bumper :lipsrsealed:
Have been trying to find a second hand one but with no luck.
Should be able to get some money back by selling the old one later.

Sounds like you're getting this back to tip top condition... nice one.... shame about your mirror though.. how much is it going to cost to get your new bumper done?

Bumper is around £150 plus Spraying £120, then you have new trim: £37 plus a S/h Grill set: £35 due to overspray on the old items.
Not the cheapest way to sort it but will get some money back when I sell the old one.

Looks like they've done a cracking job on the bumper...

Black surround looks much better mate.
Nick
You painted the grill slats black as well. Looks good.
man, that black grill looks so so much better!!!
Edited my post hehe
Edited my post hehe
Spot on, taken me ages to find out how they come apart.
Mirrors look really good, I can't help but think a LCR splitter would finish it off though :undecided:

Holes are on the underside anyway aren't they?
Won't be noticeable if you balls it up.

Tigerseal with a couple of self tappers should be enough
Looking nice wayne, although not sure on the black wing mirrors, it makes it look poverty spec. :undecided:
another big fan of LCR splitter here
consider is more wayne
Once the black theme is extended, I think they'll blend in nicely.
Perhaps with the inside of the lights painted black to reduce the chromeness of the whole thing.
Cars looking really good mate! These are really growing on me! I would be so tempted to paint those alloys black if it were mine tho!

Good work fella, you could have paid the bodyshop and got it back with a run in the paint , nice deep shine too
Got to say i'm impressed with the outcome of the mirrors there!
Could pass that off as coming from a body shop!
Give em a good T-cut mate.
Nick
Give em a good T-cut mate.
Nick
Did think of that but the paint feels very soft
Tcut is rubbish take them to a bodyshop and ask them to polish them if you don't have a decent compound.. Also how many coats of lacquer you give them ??

Thanks, I am still thinking of tinting the lights :undecided:
Could go with fly eye, apparently it doesn't affect the brightness of the beam as much as standard tint.
If I do it then it will be Lamin X but just not sure how easy it is to do. :undecided:Easy on the octavia lights, not curved enough to cause creases.

Got be honest, I'm 50/50 as well. I don't hate them, but I'm not sure if I like them either.
Nick
I think they look awesome, would look even better with a 30mm drop :lipsrsealed:
I think they look chavvy.
Liking the wheels, but I think the black grill surround is needed
very nice mate deffo a traformation to the old ones lol
Nice improvement mate although I can't help but think that it'd still massively benefit aesthetically from a minor drop of the ride height, nothing stupid to ruin comfort. Just enough the close up the arch gap on those spiffing new rims.
They completely transform it for looking standard to looking awesome
Its wierd, everyone else is saying its a huge transformation. I dont though. :undecided: Look a bit bigger and lower profile but I dont think it changes the look of the car much.
They've grown on me over night
They've grown on me over night
Ok I'm a convert too!. Just been flicking between those above and the pics on page 1 and they do look much better.
looks clean, i like it, as said above, its not a massive transformation but enough to add a personal touch and still retain the original feel to the car. thats always a win for me
Not sure how these can be seen as chavvy tho, or is that just negativity because he dont like you so much LOL  ?
However, and im not having a go but I would have thought black wheels with a red lip was more chav but thats just my opinion :undecided:
They suit the car perfectly imo, especially in pictures 1 and 3  Do you plan on going for a small drop like a 30mm cup kit?
Nowt to do with me not liking him. Just think they look chavvy. Mind you I liked the black grill surround and mirrors, but alas that has changed now too. Not my car at the end of the day so...
I don't think Halfrauds do red rim alloys.
should of bought a bora
i'm personally not keen on the new wheels, i think i preferred the originals.
I think it would look much better with a drop...
any reason why your not going lower?
i'm personally not keen on the new wheels, i think i preferred the originals.
I think it would look much better with a drop...
any reason why your not going lower?
Well I don't think it needs it also I have lots of speed bumps around the area I live and it is really easy to catch the front spoiler so would be much worse if I lowered it.
should of bought a bora
Why  this is the same car underneath.
VW borings look boring and are dated, are they only 150 hp standard too? and have smaller breaks ?? :undecided:
Oi, don't start :laugh:should of bought a bora

because its a skoda, and looks boring and dated...
im 50 50 on the wheels :undecided:

Might be going to look at this at the weekend:

Nick
If i'm totally honest they took a few minutes to work for me, then I looked back at you're other choices and decided that you've made a good choice, BBS and BBS style is everywhere, even my car! something different gets my vote and I certainly don't think they look chavy. I think half the reason it took me a while was because I too think it could do with 10-15mm drop. :lipsrsealed: You must have some crazy ass speedbumps in your area. However, i'm sure setup wise it's still spot on for handling where it might not be if it was lowered.
Thumbs up from me Wayne!!!
Small drop and perfect!! We can break you lol, you will drop it :D
Not meaning to push you into it or anything, just I was paranoid about being to low and ruining the drive and ruining the dampers, but I'm well happy with the Eibach's.
Lift the console up at back of handbrake and you'll also find one cable further back than the other. Unless you already know. Not meaning to push you into it or anything, just I was paranoid about being to low and ruining the drive and ruining the dampers, but I'm well happy with the Eibach's.
Thanks for the info, I will have a think.
One small thing to update, I have a rear caliper in trouble so have ordered a new one today.

Interesting that's its seized. Only known that to happen when a boot has gone and the brakes haven't been used in a while.
Always the way though Wayne, spend money on good stuff and something poop comes along to steal more funds... Ah well, you have to expect the odd niggle from a new motor, lets hope that's all. Nice sig BTW.

I'm disappointed Wayne, I can't believe you're selling them after one criticism. It doesn't matter what you put on there'll always be "someone" that doesn't approve.
The replacements better be good or im gonna lay right into you...
I look forward to seeing what you replace them with.
Thanks shaun
Those log wheels are incredible.
No pressure on me being correct then

id have give up buy the 2nd time, spent the money on making it faster and handle better, i like the wheels that are on tbh.
In a way I guess that giving up was an option however I really want what I have lined up / ordered, making it quicker is something I am still in two minds on but lets see what next month brings.Good luck.

Thanks :afro: no real turbo lag tbh, having a smallish turbo helps

No worries.
Nah just I had a go with one off the lights, obviously I got completely owned but literally just off the lines I got a car length in head, then got blown into the dust.
Just wondering if the power is there from the go or a slight delay.

It's more likely that it took him about half a second to realise you wanted a race, then another half second to double check. This would give you the half car length's advantage then he put his foot down
my mate had this exact same thing happen to him, take your money then tell you they are out of stock, bloody annoying !!
Bloody hell  Unlucky :undecided:
Can you get them in another colour with the right fitment and respray them maybe?
if there the ones you told me i think they will look awsome

Nah, I heard some fell off a lorry and some numpty in a mk4 ran over them :lipsrsealed:
I think they will look nice mate.
I wouldn't be buying a K&N as it'll kill your MAF

Wheels look awesome Wayne :afro:
Glad you managed to pick up the d/v ok
now that needs top be 40mm lowered on thoise wheels to make them look even betterThat would be perfect
Thanks all , sorry to say that it will not be lowered, it is fine as is.
To spend £400 to lower it 20mm makes no sense to me, in other news a remap is booked for Monday :afro:

Could you not just get a set of lowering springs? Or is that not the route you want to take?
Up the balloon profile and recode it, that will fill the arches nicely
I'm not a fan of them alloys sadly, I preffered your old ones. The other ones suited the car more than these, they look lost and out if place as well as look like the dub chavs wheels that you see at all meets. Good news is you can smooth them
On a positive, I like the rest of the car.

Because they're black, look smaller for some reason.
The old wheels just look big. CHs don't look very big, especially in black. I'm a fan of both wheels though :cool:Up the balloon profile and recode it, that will fill the arches nicely

Put a red rim on them, that'll sort them out.

I was a fan of the old but luuurve the new Wayne, I am gonna echo whats been said already, a small drop would finish it nicely. However, I understand your thinking on not doin it
Never really looked at the Octavia's before but the more I see the more I likey
If I was in the market for a family saloon, one of these would be my first port of call me thinks
They look nice mate be good with a subtle drop.. see in the pics you were outside Skoda do you work there ?
looking good Wayne nice choice mate!
Much prefer the new rims matey, think they break up the silver.
Looking really nice Mate :afro:
Wheels look great :afro:
they are a million times better than the others.. really strong choice
Dont like em
I think they're really nice rims BUT I've gotta say that due to them been black they really seem to exaggerate the whole vehicles ride height and wheel arch gap. I know you've said several times that you have no intention on lowering the suspension and i totally understand your reasoning behind this BUT it's crying out for it now mate. Sorry. :lipsrsealed:
They look like fake BBS CH, might be the ride height and stance, wheels are to tucked under
i like that style rim as i nearly got some bbs for my vrs but in silver

I think it looks sopt on Mate, and the best thing is...............................you like it :afro:
I prefer the Black CH's, I've seen them on Daz's Mk4 and in the flesh these look really nice with the satin finish
Contemplated these for mine but got another set I've found that is ticking xome other boxes for me
love them mate, look so much better than the others
Love the wheels. IMO needs a tiny drop to LOOK good but you're happy so...................
Did you get it on rollers before the map?

Well it was probably a little over standard as its well run in.. be interesting to know what its at now, did the mappers not have rollers?
PS, will be dealing with your PM before I go bed.
Docs in october wayne?
Docs in october wayne?
Nope way too far to travel, looking @ sorting a RR day in the south west maybe.
Well I have found the water leak, the grommet around the bonnet release cable is missing, I guess we must have caught it when fitting the boost gauge, I have filled the hole with silicone.
Need to sort out drying the foam out now, may wait until I fit the darker carpet.
Skoda have tracked a servo pipe down, collecting it in the morning.
Pain in the ass... at least you've sorted the leak... why did your policy get cancelled!?
Got a spare grommet here if you need it Wayne. Make sure the fuse box lid is on tight, as I had a leak from where i fitted my boost gauge through the same place, sealed it with a grommit and silicon, then it carried on leaking, took it all off and someone had knocked the fuse box cover off by about 2mm. Good luck on getting it all dry.
gotta say just see your for sale thread for your old wheels and against your new sig ,your new rims are definately the right choice imo
I wonder why Skoda can't do what VW do? With every part I've ordered VW can have it in the next day, even if I order late in the afternoon :undecided:
My local VW dealership is a bit slow 2-5days on varying items. :undecided:
Don't VW do the same parts? Might be worth checking with them in future, if you have a local VW dealership that is.
Have you tryd TPS they do all vag parts at trade price. There's one in leeds don't no if there's one near you ud have to check.
Also thinking of going back to 17" wheels
QuoteAlso thinking of going back to 17" wheels
oh god...
Wayne, have you considered applying for the annual wheel whore award
Stick with the 18s fella  if you really cared about mpg you would've kept the pisscasio :lipsrsealed:
tbh if you had 17s you would have to have bigger tyres to fill the arches and then it would be the same overall size as ur 18s so id keep em tbh, if you want mpg get a dirty diesel.
Mr. Wayne will this be happening any time soon?
(excuse the MS paint skills )

Complaints about the ride at standard height with 18's on?... A drop will never happen.
does look sweet decked tho

Spot on, I see no point in lowering it.
Harsh ride as is without slamming it, at the end of the day your looking @ £400 for a good guality lowering kit and that is money I do not have.
I have always said after the mk3 I will never lower another car, sorry.
Well the 1st set of alloys have now sold which is a result, still thinking / looking at changing the CH's however.

I had to enlarge the text to large to read the last bit
Also fit a sex appeal gauge, it may help you decide what wheels to keep
Wats that
Got a photo off your current cable, maybe someone will have a scooby and help out?
How did you manage that! I fitted my pollen filter in like 5 mins no problem. :undecided:
Soo am i right in saying your getting rid of the chs???
Do explain.
wtf

Ouch mate wat you do and how
I guess windscreen cover on the insurance will deal with this ok?
I don't get it?
And the pollen filter?
Good thinking "Batman" :grin:And the pollen filter?
God knows, might try and fit it whilst he has the covers off.

remove a cover,
replace filter,
refit cover
call glass fitter

Am I the only one who thinks that glueing the scuttle cover to the windscreen is a sh!te design? :undecided: I guess Skoda had to save money somewhere compared to the VW equivilent :undecided:

Mot tomorrow

Front brake inbalance
Number plate bulb (which was working yesterday)
Headlight aim
They are now looking at the brakes to see what the problem is.
Thats not bad.. although didn't you have some jip with brakes not that long ago?

I have not unless it has air trapped from when the rear caliper was replaced :undecided:
was the system fully bled when the caliper was changed?
What a nightmare
I have news from the garage (Skoda main dealer), it looks like it needs a new front caliper, however they cannot supply a new caliper until the new year
So I have now managed to source one from VW from the morning, will need painting but that is no big deal.
Just hoping that it sorts the problem.
So you've been told you need a new one but have you been told why? Dealers are always keen to replace rather than fix.
I'd try freeing it up and checking the discs and pads first.
So you've been told you need a new one but have you been told why? Dealers are always keen to replace rather than fix.I'd try freeing it up and checking the discs and pads first.
Well the n/s front is reading 35% lower than the drivers side, discs and pads are fine (new less than 4k ago), they have also checked the discs with a dial gauge, all hoses are ok, sliders have been cleaned and lubricated, system has been bled twice yet it still has the fault.
So as a last resort they suspect the caliper is sticking / not working as it should :undecided:
Ah fair enough. Sounds like a calliper next then. Add it to the price list.
just this month then wayne? must be cos you worked out the full cost so far.
its all these wheels you go through (i am aware its inly 2 sets)
Buy a Micra. I've spent some total of a £2.20 roll for my boss priming and lacquering a rocker cover alongside other jobs since I've had it.

So Skoda cannot supply a caliper and they expect me to source one, thats fine and it has arrived however they are saying I may still not get it back today as they wanted it first thing.
FFS
I will be haggling hard over the final bill that is for sure now.
good luck with the labour, shouldnt be too much to change a caliper and bleeed the system back up
i think maybe that would make me annoyed
y couldnt skoda get a caliper for a skoda. surly they should be able to find one asap and surly they should be able to fix a problem and get the car back quickly as they are a profesional garage.
If the labour charge is stupid ask them for a breakdown of their time spent on the car
well its sorted now and that is the main thing, i take you have the car back?
My golf under heavy braking pulls left all the time, never failed an MOT, tracking new tires, pads, bled system with higher boiling point, goodridge hoses etc, caliper has been checked and geometry tested yet it still slightly pulls left under heavy braking. Maybe its just normal?
I'm sure with enough complaining they can drop the time wrongly diagnosing the fault.
I can't see how a 35% balance issue can just dissapear though unless the machine or operator is at fault......
I have had nothing but poor service and extortionate pricing from dealer garages.
I have had nothing but quality and informative service with fair pricing from my local trusted garage.
Good stuff, glad I could help :afro:
After driving around for a few days with my dogbone polybushed I've completely adjusted to it, don't even notice it anymore and soo much better than before! That said My gearchanges can still be a bit awkward at times :undecided:
Are you just going to swap the stereo & gauges around?
looking good wayne
id get a black gauge fitted there instead  if it was me that is
my stereo fits in the bottom mate thats where i put mine but im getting a double din one for crimbo
Not to keen on that, I like the boost gauges in the vents however.

I did have a vent mounted one but was not keen, have had another idea however and have ordered something tonight :lipsrsealed:
Spot on!
I like that, nice
Much better, the wonky stack would have done my head in.
I prefer them to the CH's. Good choice.
Nick
I wonder how much the replicas weighed if the new ones are 9kg!
15?
are they a recaro seat? mine is fooked got some foam to have ago bodging the side up :nerd: because i cant fine a new base for it, is it easy to remove the cover?
Good work Wayne :afro:
yea i went to seat and vw both wanded over £80 and i cant justify paying that so going to have a go myself 1st when i get a free day with nice weather.
Recaro seat base is one full part
£78?? Fook!!! Mine was approx £50 just a couple of years ago!
New wheels look spot on!!
would benefit from a little drop mate

A small update, retaxed today for 6mths, that gets me to July.
Not much else to report.
 how come man?
 how come man?
This...........
So which is the genuine reason for selling it and which are just excuses?
No excuses at all and nothing at all wrong with the car
Makes you question why you bought a car in first place.
Nah - it's totally understandable.
I only did one track day in my Golf last year, but it doesn't matter one iota. The main thing to me is that I own it and as and when I have the time to play with it, I do.
No excuses at all and nothing at all wrong with the car
So say 'I'm selling the car because I'm only doing 80-100miles a month and it's not worth having it' instead of trotting out a BS sales spiel line, which makes it look like you're hiding something.
Nah - it's totally understandable.

Exactly this. My Golf made one VW meet in 2011 and that was a 8 mile round trip. That's all it did in the whole year.
Nick
At the end of the day if Wayne doesn't want a car, he doesn't want one! Simples! he is going to be saving a few bob over the year that could be used else where. I'm sure he will access to another car, should he require the need to use one.
Well had little or no luck with selling it and then it went wrong again, the before cat Lambda has died, should get it back tomorrow all fixed but it is yet more money that I did not want to spend on the car.the tax idea is a good one, but breaking!!
Plan b is to run it until the tax is up then maybe look at breaking it.
its to nice to break!
trouble is, with cars these days, there worth more in bit's which is very sad!
Are they the standard wheels it came with mate?
Still no luck on the sell mate?
those wheels look so wrong, makes it look like a base model car IMHO
those wheels look so wrong, makes it look like a base model car IMHO
I agree but they are only to sell it plus were really cheap, no point in spending another £300 just to sell it.
well to me it ruins the whole look of the car :undecided:
perhaps keeping the original wheels and the change could have been undone easier would have helped it sell
to be fair the price its down to I would be breaking it
So you've now got ANOTHER set of wheels to shift on - haha.
How many sets of wheels in total has this car now seen?
You must have spent more on wheels than the actual car itself
You must have spent more on wheels than the actual car itself
That's not to sad then really.
I quite like it on those wheels lol
Can't beat the original octy alloys, even bought some for my fab.I quite like it on those wheels lol
Thanks, a few people do but I think they are putting people off, I am hoping that when it is back on the original type alloys I get some interest.
Remapped today.
Fook me it is bonkers when the boost comes in.
Going to try and get it on a rolling road soon to see what it is putting out.
If your in the South West I can highly recommend: Nathan @ http://www.wagenworx.co.uk/ excellent service :afro:
HA...come on wayne, spill the beans...what wheels have you ordered ??
go with a k and n panel filter then smooth and drill the airbox prob more to your tast mate.
have you done the n249 bypass?
No interest in it at all then bud? :undecided:
No interest in it at all then bud? :undecided:
Well since Feb I have had in total 5 phone calls and 11 emails, best offer was £1600 but would not sell it for that so it looks like it is staying.
Clocked up 119k tonight and I have had it a year on the 1st May and this will be the first car I have ever had for a year.

Shame  Still its a cracking car, and not really a hardship to have to keep it :afro:
Wayne I'd keep it. Fuel's obviously not your main concern as you do such low mileage and for when you want a drive it's a good, fun and solid car to have for when you want it. It's also practical and inconspicuous.
I know sitting with a lump of metal out in the driveway can seem a bit wasteful but you'd miss it if it went.
Alright bud how you getting on with darf Vader under your hood thinking about getting myself one
look good that mate. i do think a vent pod would look cool
did you wire it up to the dimmer.
ah ok, get a pic up at night to show the colour match with the speedo lights
Just don't go through any puddles!
Just don't go through any puddles!
This always concerned me when seeing mk4's with these fitted.
hope it's just a hose mate!
I presume this is the usual full dash out jobbie? Ewww......
Thanks all for the kind words of support :afro:
Good luck bud im sure it will be OK with two of you at it
Haaa guess my MK2 guide on the matrix is no use
Its in there somewhere imagine saving all that labour costs it can go somewhere else now!
No pictures, sorry but heater matrix has now been replaced and dash is nearly back together, few hours tomorrow along with bleeding the cooling system will see it finished .
You know the best trick to get air out of the cooling system is to leave the expansion cap off over night!
Start the car get it up to temperature let it cool then take the cap off and leave it off till morning.
Air has a way of finding itself to the top, a few squeeze of the rad pipes before bedtime and morning will work all air bubbles out to the expansion bottle!
How many screws do you have left over?
You just know there had to be a least one over or missing, standard procedure really.
Well done for sorting this
Love the gauges
are they stack guages? look good anyway mate
looked a horrid job changing the matrix over
Yes they are all Stack gauges
Is that a STACK STACK STACK clock in there? Going overboard a bit, isn't it?! It's a Skoda, not a Rover!
You wheel whore you!
