Title: Golf MKVI GTI now on VW.co.uk with prices and UK spec!!!!
Post by: neilgcal on 23 March 2009, 12:09
Hey guys and girls

Well the moment we have been waiting for has arrived. The UK VW site now has all the standard spec and options for the new Golf GTI!

http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/#/new/golf-gti-vi/

Does a 6.9 second 0 - 60 sprint which is faster than they had been saying but it only comes as standard with the 17" rims, you need to pay extra for the 18's! Apart from that everything bar the Sat Nav seems to be standard!

Okay on second thoughs maybe not everything is standard as the configurator puts my car at £24,915!! Better start saving now!!!

Not being funny but If you spec up a 3 door, black with DSG it comes to 24,500k then if you add little extras it comes to around 25-26k!

Just a basic spec 3 door with DSG and Xennons (when they are out) is going to be well specced Focus RS money. I know the GTi is a good car, I have a mk5 Edition 30, but this list price is stupid.

Imagine what the GTR or R20 would be going for!

Focus RS looks a better option now, after the initail hype has died down, and we can get proper Ford discounts on it.

Am I correct in stating that there is still no option for xenons? I for one wouldnt order until VW get their supplier sorted out? I cant check myself yet as my internet in work is so slow the configurator times out at the paint stage. Got my bro to check it and he cant find xenons. Anyone else confirm, just in case he missed them?

I am also thinking that for the money at the minute, once you spec it up you can easily hit 27k, I personally would rather find a high specced ED30 for maybe around 15 which is also quicker standard. As mentioned above I dread to think the price of an R model if ever released. Higher prices simply down to weak £

No apparantly Xennons are out calender week 22 in germany, and I agree wouldn't get a car without them, and they also look quite cool on the mk6.

But as we all know, are way overpriced with VW!

Not sure what to do with our ED30 now, as was going to see how much the GTi and R20 would be first.

Wow, boy do VW have us over a barrel with those extra's prices and also the car price itself. If I cant get any deals on this, VW have just lost themselves a customer.

Bloody expensive. Flat tyre indicator as an optional extra??? Bit of a joke. Amongst others.  I think they will struggle to shift a lot of these for some time especially with the current climate.

So is the mk6 now out to buy ? If I went to my dealer now would I be able to buy If I struck a deal with them ?

23k as standard you are having a laugh vw....either that or they are taking the p**s...more likely the latter!!!

They will certainly struggle with those prices. It's the reason I am having a Honda Civic as a company car, good spec nowhere near the price of a gttdi, just too expensive for what you can get.

my email from VW confirms they are available for order only at present, no confirmed release date as such...

Looks like it's time to find another hot hatch..... VW have got to be joking with their prices.... and you know they'll be no discounts on the GTI in regular VW fashion.

And the lack of Xenon's is just a joke.  Would never pay £25k for a car without them.

Overall I'm feeling rather disappointed this afternoon!

Like everybody else I'm gutted about the MKVI GTI, the price, the spec & as lots of others have said no xenon yet?!

Spec one of these right with leather, DSG, upgraded sound system or sat-nav, 18 inch wheels & a few bits & pieces including Xenon & this will be a £30K car...............

Seriously VW at this price I'll stick with other manufacturers as there are so many high end cars available at this price

I hope it doesn't sell, VW will only take notice that way.

But this is the UK, there will be people out there that will pay it and it's those people that let companies like VW know that those prices are fine.

Once again, rip off Britain.

I had the email too and spec'd one up earlier. It came to Audi S3 money with some change left over for satnav, aftermarket wheels, coilovers and a remap.

This months CAR Magazine has a good write up....................... Like a lot of other press articles they keep refering to the R as being the one too wait for.......................But just like the GTI will this also be overpriced????

for the same spec mk5 that I have it's 28grand. I paid over 3grand less than that. Jeez expensive. Has VW heard of the credit crunch

i thought the mk6 was meant to be simpler and easier to build, then why does it cost more money to buy? Profit margin that's why!

I dread to think what price an R model would be if they release one! I built the spec of my MK5 R32 (excluding SatNav as I bought it on ebay) on the MK6 GTI configurator and my R32 priced when it was new was cheaper. The price of the optional extras now is a joke!

As mentioned already, so much for the 'cheaper to build MK6' being passed on to the customer. I dont think even the legendary GTI history will be enough to make as many people fork out this sort of crazy money.

Its crazy money, looks like I'll be looking at one of their stockpiled mk5's now

It is expensive. I was always planning on keeping the MK5 for sometime anyway so not to bothered.

Iv posted pics from CAR mag in this thread if anyone wants a butchers: http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=110700.10

I just speced up a realistic model that I could afford. Spec is:

Stand 6-speed stick (what I have now in the MK5 and is fine)
Tornado Red Paint
Winter Pack
Luxury pack
18' Monzas

£23,315 . . . not too bad imo. It when you start going mental adding leather, DSG and, the complete day light robbery that is the audio / touch sat nav system. The aftermarket audio setup I have in my Mk5 cost about a 4th of what they want for the upgrade a sounds and million times better, that it starts to get into the silly money. Id happily pay £23k for that (if I had the money, I hate houses :( )

At least VW havn't coloured in the side skirt and lower rear bumper.
The press cars seem to have the fancy suspension but don't show it in the indicated price (for us it an extra £900).

A high profit stop-gap before the real replacement comes in.  The light and nimble Mk7.

You would recommend adding a audio setup from a 3rd party after the car was bought then Alan ?

Found this on the VW press release

Bi-xenon headlights with curve lighting

As an option, Volkswagen is offering the Golf GTI with completely redesigned bi-xenon headlights, including dynamic curve lighting. The headlights swivel through a steering radius of up to 13 degrees to the outside and seven degrees to the inside. The styling of the headlights closely matches the GTI's sporty character. The interior dual modules (xenon outboard, parking light / turn signals inboard) each have a chrome pod through which a very impressive visual image projects. Placed low below the bumper – and also GTI-specific in design – are the vertically aligned and always standard front fog lights.

Sounds really good, but am I dreading to see the price of them, I'm guessing at £950.

3dr Mk5 GTI standard was £19995 I thought at first launch?

So if that is true, the list price of a new GTI today is lower in real values than it was in 2005?

If I was to crash and destroy my GTI I would order a Mk6 GTI.
My Mk5 was in for it's first service today.
The brand new 09 Jetta (TD) used as the loan car made me really appreciate how good the Mk5 GTI is.

I'm finding it slightly worrying that I'm mounting up all the 'loose end' things I can sell to try and claw back a few grand so that I can make this car affordable to me.

If you think what was standard the last couple of years on the mk5, ie leather, tyre indicator etc then your looking at a £3500 price rise for the mk6 GTI
VW you have low speced it for the price your asking. If i give it even an ok spec by my low standards, not even too S3 levels your at Audi S3 money, sorry VW but your taking the p1ss.
