Speedo stopped working! Fuel gauge sporadic

Hello!!

My speedometer has stopped working, was driving along the other day, and after about 7miles, it just stopped and dropped, fuel gauge is jumping around too! Last time it did this, it was the speed sensor on the top of the gearbox, so replaced it, that was 7yrs ago, but off the road for 6 after that.

I have removed the sensor and attached it to a drill and ran it, the speedometer moved….so it’s not the sensor, the pinion is a new one, so could it be something inside the gearbox now?

Any other suggestions?

the worm where the pinion runs against has broken in the box, damn!!

I have a spare gearbox, so will get that fitted this week, and will open the box up, to check to see if that part can be replaced, will get some pictures, hopefully
