MIB1 to MIB2 - is it worth it?
« on: 18 November 2021, 10:48 »

Hi - I asked this on one of the FB groups but had no response

I’m considering upgrading my base MIB1 to a base MIB2 with Nav & CarPlay for £560 fitted and am wondering what the benefits and niggles are, having done some research on global forums.

Can anyone who has done this offer advice:

Car is a 2014

The MIB2 I am considering has VW nav (not that I would use it) & car play.

- can I get VW nav directions displayed in the dash?

- Voice button on steering wheel will work with MIB2 - can I dictate a text message?

CarPlay :
- I have heard that carplay doesn’t work well with Waze? (Prefers Apple Maps)
- Can I still answer a phone call on steering wheel?
- can I still skip Spotify tracks on steering wheel?

Is sound quality any better?

I use an iPhone btw.

Any other benefits? (aside from slightly bigger screen)- my main reason for upgrade is my MIB1 screen has started freezing & I would like Waze on the head unit screen rather than the phone.

Cheers,

James

Hi James,

Can't answer many of your questions, but I can say Waze (and google maps) through Carplay works perfectly fine for me.
so much so I have barely used the VWNav.

I have a 2017 Clubsport with the bigger screen and Dynaudio upgrade and iPhone 12.

Hope that helps in some small way.

Jason.
