Title: Calling all one owners of Golf mk2`s
Post by: WeekendMechanic on 01 September 2021, 09:31
Any old geezer buy a golf mk2 from new, and still maintained it after all these years?
My question is about the power steering rack....
How long did it last you, changing the hydraulic oil every 3 years, or is it still ok?

Hi

Had mine nigh on 30 years and all good so far at 155,000 miles. has been quite well looked after but not obsessively so, think the oil was changed there a while back. Do get a rumble now and then on extreme lock when cold but works OK

I've only had mine for 13 years after buying it from it's first owner. There is nothing in the very comprehensive service history about steering fluid ever being changed and I've certainly never done it. The car is nearing 32 years old and done 163,000 miles and no issues with the steering that I'm aware of.
