Tuning boxes
« on: 08 November 2012, 14:16 »
Tuning boxes yes or no?

I had my Golf mapped by The Doc and it made a tremendous difference to the car. Cheers Doc.
But since I am leaving the Golf behind  and going with another 2.0TDI in the form of an A1, I don't know if I could go back to not having the same power.

I don't want to have the new car mapped straight away so thought a compromise of a tuning box. Anyone any experience of these or compared them to an actual map?

Cheers.

You do, do you?
Any statistics on them for the 2.0TDI A1 Audi?

The internet says tuning boxes are no more than a box full of resistors. How are yours different / better Craig?

Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Mine are not a box full of resistors but some companies do sell a resistor in a box for sure.

All I'll say is everyone who has had one loves them

Your looking at around 25-30 extra Bhp and 40 lbft of torque

What are they then? How do they work and how much do you charge for them?

I tried a simple resistor thingy a few years ago - more power for sure, but rough as, and lots of smoke.
I then tried a decent digital tuning box (car new, warranty considerations etc) and never felt the need to go for a re-map.
It was a great mod.

I recently fitted the now redundant tuning box to a mates A4, replacing another more simple resistor based box, and he's over the moon with it. More grunt, smoother, bigger smiles.

No doubt a proper re-map is better...but the tuning box is a decent compromise...and removable in a few mins, if required

Reducing my Golf count by the week....
..but gaining motorcycles.
