Title: Bits missing 7.5 PP vs. 7 PP (2014 vintage)
Post by: GTI-J on 04 September 2017, 21:22
So far, I've found the following are missing on the 7.5 which will no doubt save VW a few pennies.

- Rear seat isofix covers*
- Mirror bolt door caps*
- Lock on glovebox
- Additional Discover Pro USB port in armrest cubby (climate screen)
- Phone signal boost plate in armrest cubby (climate screen)
- Top cover for battery*
- Small secondary engine cover

On the other hand, some thing's never change like the crap squeaky wiper blades which are still being fitted by the factory. Bosch Aerotwins to the rescue once again and those marked with an asterix have been retrofitted so the car is starting to feel more complete! Has anyone noticed anything else?

Wiper blades were the only thing that didn't make noise on my car when I got it, all sorted now though.

No this was interesting!  :grin: But is good that some other things are better  :wink:

Isn't the missing phone stuff because you don't have to/didn't order the advanced phone prep to go with the climate screen?

On the Mk7 when you ticked climate screen it added the phone stuff automatically, on the Mk7.5 you don't have to and will only get the phone prep if you manually tick it? It was never free, you paid a fortune for it previously.

These are the exposed screws on the 2016 and newer models which are the wing mirror fixing screws. These used to be covered by a nice blanking plate.

These are the ISO-fix covers on the rear seat (you might have to click on the image and go to my Flickr site to zoom in and see them properly (next to the seat belt buckles).

Don't think of these things as "missing" think of them as weight saving performance gains on your GTI PP.

Should make an extra tenth of a second round Silverstone :D

I'm so pleased I read this post before collecting my car.

My Seat trade in had isofix covers fitted, or should I say did as they are now in my new car. Thanks!

Did the MK7 have puddle lights fitted? My Mk7.5 3door doesn't?

Only under the door mirrors. The bottom of the door card has always just been a red reflector but some (including myself) have retrofitted proper puddle lights there. Like so:

Not sure if all mk7 models had them but the GTI did; not in the bottom of the doors, but in the underside of the door mirrors. All mk7.5 Golfs apart from the S and e-Golf should have them; they're part of the mirror pack which, according to the Golf pricelist brochure, is standard on all but the S and e-Golf - see under Comfort and Convenience on page 29 in the price list at the link below;

Thanks for the replies.

My GTI does look like it has the little lights under the wing mirrors - not that I can find a way to get them to work?

I don't think they'll illuminate in daylight; it needs to be dark.

I don't have them on my current car but did have them on my mk6 Golf and they'd light up when it was dark and under the following conditions;

- if in the car; when opening the door to get out of the car
- if outside the car; when unlocking the car via the remote (don't know what happens if you've got keyless).

Presumably there's a section in the manual outlining how and when they work on the mk7.5?

They should come on when you unlock the car and the mirrors finish unfolding. I think they also come on when you open the door. More obvious in the dark obviously  :grin:

I can confirm they work brilliantly, it just needs to be really dark outside.  :embarrassed:

So, has anyone fitted the mirror bolt covers to a Mk7.5 and how did you do it? I took one of mine off a Mk7 and the inner door skin has a hole for the cover to locate into. It doesn’t appear to push fit onto the Torx bolts you can see ?
Anyone want to spill the beans?

I thought the battery cover (blanket) was for diesels to keep the battery charge better in the winter
