Title: Mk2 GTI 16v Idle issues
Post by: rossbarry1 on 20 April 2017, 17:07
Hi,

Hope some can help me with the intermittent idle issue.

ISV works fine, buzzes on start up. Car is set up to idle with the ISV buzzing as per the tuning guide. The every now and then the ISV cuts out and I end up with a rough idle. There is no power to the ISV when it cuts out.

I'm lost as to what could be changing state whilst the car is sat idling on the drive which causes the ISV to stop functioning. I've tried to look for a schematic in my Haynes manual and cant find anything specific to the 16V ISV.

Anyone with any ideas would be appreciated.

Cheers

Is this a temperature related issue?.. Does it only happen when the car has warmed up or does it do it when the engin is cold too?
You could start with the basics, take throttle body of and give it a clean, take ISV off and soak it in petrol overnight to clean it up, and give the micro switches a squirt of WD40 whilst your at it, the bottom one may have got stuck.
