Title: Suction cup marks on windscreen
Post by: cosmos on 11 February 2017, 10:33
Every time there's condensation on my front and rear screen I can see suction cup marks, presumably from where the glass was originally moved about in the factory as I've never stuck anything to the screens. I've cleaned them plenty of times but can't seem to shift these marks.

Can anyone recommend a really good glass cleaner? I'm guessing I also need to apply a bit more elbow grease

Not sure but white vinegar is really good on glass. Always leaves me fancying some chips though

Good glass cleaners - Gtechniq G6 Perfect Glass and Autoglym Fast Glass are brilliant, but you'll likely need something stronger than that for the dreaded suction cup circles which can be a bigger to get off.  As suggested above, meths, vinegar, IPA, glass polish will help, then follow up with your glass cleaner.  Sometimes it takes a few goes to get rid of them.

Thanks all. Will try using vinegar first and I do actually have some Autoglym cleaner from a set I got at Christmas (alas I haven't had chance to make use of it yet).

I would imagine a decent glass polish would also work well. AutoGlym, Auto Finesse or Gtechniq is where id go looking.

Suction cup marks are a right B to remove believe me Ive been trying everything for over three years!

They are on my wife's UP which she had Autogleamed by the dealer before delivery!!!!!!

My investigations have revealed that in the factory the suction cups are regularly cleaned with a solvent, when the cups are next used the solvent remaining on the cups/the material of the cups themselves, leaves marks on the glass, but these marks disappear following repeated use.

All UK VW dealers suffer complaints about suction cup marks, but not one has a solution!

I just cannot imagine a German owner of a VW accepting this as an unsolvable problem so can only assume German dealers have found a solution which they keep to themselves.

Hope this helps.
