Title: erratic idle

i have an old 1.6 golf s which runs ok but on idle the revs are erratic. 1100 & jumping up to 1200. I haven't a clue why

As there is only one 1.6 engine in unspecified 'old' Golfs my money is on the flux capacitor!

Model year, engine code, mileage, service status, fault codes are absolute minimum to give you any sensible advice.
