I would guess it's White paint. But I could be wrong.

Vandalised with a pot of white paint and a brush? Hope it's emulsion and not gloss!
Title: Re: 1990 16v rebuild
Post by: notenoughtime on 14 August 2013, 19:51
Think it's gloss, it's slowly coming off with petrol and decent microfibre cloths, will have to repaint the bonnet and possibly bother rear quarters. Interior has been painted with the same and slit with a knife so need to recover the seats but they can wait for now.

RS's and RM's and a car for £1000!

yep def had a result. going to spend tomorrow on the car see if i can get it running. And need to remove wheel locking bolts as no key for them. so will weld nuts on to them and get the gold rm`s fitted. will suit it better imo.
will get the silver rm`s up for sale once i`ve removed them. If anyone is interested give me a shout.

The slashed seats suggest it was rather personal as apposed to just a random vandal.

Great bargain. Good luck with restoring it.

The guy was terminally ill and his mum had a breakdown and done this to the car! Not really that interesting rather sad if you ask me.
Title: Re: 1990 16v rebuild
Post by: DubFan on 17 August 2013, 11:51
Yeah, that is rather sad.
I had a neighbour who had a breakdown and did something similar, wrecking all his own hardwork in the garden, including setting fire to the shed he'd built from scratch.

Anyway, onwards and now the Golf has a second chance to have a fun life.

Sad, yes but interesting too.  People do the strangest things.  If you hadn't said what had happened that's what everyone would have been wondering, reading the thread

Suggest you empty the fuel tank completely, maybe flush out and flush the fuel lines, in case there was sugar dumped in the tank or anything silly.

why you not use scotchbrites for the flatting off. much cleaner.

Usually do use them but needs a bit more due to what the car was covered in and i feel if i put some real time into getting all the panels spot on now i will be much happier at the end,
I`ve found a few rust spots on rear valence so need to get the grinder out and get those sorted also
