%*"**ng rust! - with pics
« on: 01 April 2010, 19:43 »
Well I thought I'd finish at lunchtime today and go and sort some rust out on the o/s front wing, it was just starting to flake above the plastic trim at the top of the arch............well, after I took the trim off it was so bad I ended up taking the wing off.....

This is what I was left with, it was a replacement wing and just fell off when I undid the bolts, no underseal at all!

Fortunately the original stuff behind was OK.

Luckily I have a spare OEM wing in the right colour (needs some work though), picked it up last year when I got a spare for the bent pas side but hadn't planned on doing this side, it just looked like it would be quick touch up job. It always worries me what can lurk behind plastic trim.

BTW, how long should a battery (new) stay charged when you don't use the car, two weeks max for mine and it only has the alarm to drain it? (that I know of) Took the hatch and glovebox bulb out just to be safe a while back.  :undecided:

Donor wing on, (thanks to luesautos ), the paint match is pretty good and the fit is perfect, just a but of touching up before I replace the arch trim. Did the cambelt and rear engine mounting while it was off......see other post.

Goddamn tinworm!
UK climate murders metal. Wet, windy and plenty of salt on the roads in winter.
Rot killed my mk2 and my mk3 had pretty bad grot in the sills too.
Done the sills on this mk2 but got some rot round the petrol filler/rear seams.
I'm almost scared to look as I know it'll always be worse than first appearance. Something to do when I get back from Hol's

Considering de arched as I always liked the look...

Holy crap! That's what killed my mk2.

Time to start fabbing up some steel panels methink, or convert to Fred Flintstone style of driving

Course it is, just stick your feet through the floor to slow down. Perfect...
