If GTI/GTD popularity for Pure White isn't reflected in the rest of the Golf range then it might be reasonable to assume that they might have to wait longer in the queue for that colour in the dedicated paint booths they have rather than say DBP if the GTI/GTD numbers more closely match % output for all models made there. Say 60% of GTI/GTDs are PW, but only 30% of Wolfsburg output is PW, then GTI/GTDs could be waiting longer to fit in the PW painting schedule amongst the rest of the cars.
I see your point but I don't think it explains the delays.
In the first example PW is not a popular colour for Golfs overall, but it is for the GTI/D... therefore a large % of the PW cars are GTI/Ds and this wasn't anticipated. However, if this is the case we are talking about a low volume of PW cars and therefore a low delay. It might explain an extra week, but not 3+ months of delays.
In the second example PW is a popular colour for Golfs overall, and there is a general hold up for this colour. In this case if we're talking about 3+ months of hold up its a really easy decision to add brand new extra booths to clear things. In fact, to operate a factory like this they would need to already posses overcapacity so they can cope with varying demand, so all they need do is load PW into some of their clearn, ready to use, idle booths that they keep for such a situation.
I'm just saying, if it was paintwork holding a car up for 3 months then something would be done about it, thats just unacceptable. Furthermore they would know full well what the reason is for the hold up, so every time we talk to them about it they would have to be close to lying to us since they always say "we don't know why the delay, maybe DSG?", and if in reality they know it is paintwork that statement is... misleading.
