Battery check.
« on: 16 May 2021, 19:17 »
Just checked my battery again and it seems to be holding up quite well for nearly 5 years old and considering how many people have battery issues with these cars.

Those readings look good particularly the voltage. Had the car been standing for a couple of hours prior to the check? Can make quite a difference to readings if just run.
Mk6 GTI Carbon Grey, 2010 Bluetooth and voice fitted, a few VCDS mods still a comfortable family car. Red Scirocco 2011 twin charger stage 1 - enjoyable drive now gone.  White 2016 Polo GTI (roller skate on steroids) replaced with an Indium Grey 2019 7.5 GTI PP.

Been standing about an hour after the last run, looks like it might last a while yet though.

So the best time to test the battery and get a good reading is after it's been standing for a few hours?

Best off checking when been stood for a while to let all the systems power down fully and enter there "sleep" state.

There can be a few systems which can remain active for a while hence giving you a false reading.

Well now I’m even more confused . My stop/start rarely works but my battery voltage says 14V on my OBDeleven after cars been sat for 24h

14v is a high reading for a battery that has been idle for 24 hours, A 12v battery should show 12.5-12.8v under normal circumstances.
A 14v reading is what you would expect to see with the engine running and a healthy alternator is charging the battery.
I would try another battery to see if it makes a difference.
Or try your Obdeleven in another car to see what reading you get for a different idle battery.

Stop/start seems to have stopped on mine but TBH it's been a while since it's had a good run out. Note to self, get out more!!!!
T'other half's Fiat 500 stop/start is also tempremental, pottering around doesn't charge battery enough for it to initiate. No problems after it's had a good run out.

Just checked my battery again with the OBDeleven and it shows a reading of 11.3v and my stop/start has worked once in 2 or 3 months. I'm going on a long drive Saturday so I'm not sure if that will be a good thing for it or if I should be worried in case it doesn't start when coming back.

Might get a new battery next week for piece of mind? Don't think I can buy Pro activation for the OBD11, get a new, battery, and code it, all on Saturday morning.

Edit// Also, what is a good replacement battery?. It's a weekend car as I have a work van. AGM battery? Is one from Halford ok? Prob one of their own brand ones?. Could pick one of them up off the shelf instantly
