Looking for a 7 seater
« on: 13 April 2021, 21:42 »
I am looking for a 7 seater next..as needs must :lipsrsealed:

I have been looking at a vw touran. But they only come in 1.4??

I know nothing about these new 1.4 tsi engines. Looks like they do pack enough pulling power at 150bhp.

But reliablity wise how good are they..i am looking at 2017 reg around that mark..

Any issues i should look out for etc

Also yes it must be a petrol..i do short journeys and barely 7k a year

Its essentially a Golf, so all of the usual Golf foibles.

1) Water pump will give out at some point, probably at about 4 years. Its a £700 job, make sure any you consider have had it done recently.

2) The 1.4 TSI engine if you have DSG will be using the dry cluth DSG box. These can and do fail. Not impossible to repair using a specialist rebuild company, but a pain in that you have to extract it and send it to them unless you are handy with the spanners. Maybe a manual might be a better choice.

I've not read of anyone saying the 1.4 engine is underpowered, but most reviews recommend a TDI over petrol, but I understand why that might not be a good solution for you.

Just don't expect the thing to be a GTI and you will be fine

Tourans are to most as dull as ditchwater, but if that doesn't bother you then finding one with a healthy discount shouldn't be hard. At least one could be tweaked to better suit using various Golf upgrades.

When researching cheaper 7-seaters for a friend about 18 months ago, I found the lower versions of the BMW 2-Series could be also be had at good prices and it has a bit of style about it. Being basically a re-bodied Bini means that parts/upgrade options are also plentiful in much the same way as Touran-Golf.

My friend ended-up buying a Pug 5008, (automatic) which has proven reliable and he's been happy with it so far.

yes ofcourse wont expect it to be near a gti or even drive like one.. we just need a 7 seater next..it wont be ragged around or used as "fun" car lol just literally A to B with 4 screaming kids

looks like i need ensure the dsg has had a sort of service sometimes in its life then.. ones i am looking at are 2017 reg around 40-45k on the clock.

yh no 7 seater is really fun to drive tbh..they just are needs must.

funny enough i have been looking at the bmw 2 series tourers aswell..i like the m sport ones..but the problem is it is not a proper sort of 7 seater not even a good 5. the far back 2 seats seats are for children..no way a teen or adult can get in them..and there are only 2 isofix points in the rear bench.. really do need 3 as we have 3 car seats..the mrs hates using the seat belts and wants a rear bench with 3 isofix points..lazy i know!

i currently have a seat ateca FR which has been very good, but it is a squeeze for us now.

main reason i was looking at a touran is because i want to be back in a VW..do miss them..i will do cosmetic mods to it etc

cant see myself in a Peugeot or a citroen..the drive is just horrible on them..test drove a few..they just feel so cheap and rattly.

Were there SEAT or Skoda equivalents of the Touran?

Wonder if one of those might give you better bang for your buck? Maybe a newer one for the same money.

there is a skoda kodiaq i think it is called..which looks awesome..esp the sportline.. its a 7 seater 4x4..but they are big money and out of our budget unfortunately..looking around 26k for one..my budget is around 12-14k mark

OP, if you’re looking for a 7 seater, I can recommend the Alhambra- and if you have 4 kids ( as I have)- I’d say you need a proper 7 seater- not a 5+2.
We’ve had ours 4 years- done 40k in it.
It’s a great car.
For some reason, Seat have stopped making it- though I think the identical VW sharon still in production.
The Alhambra- in top spec- comes loaded- leathers, electric everything, pan roof, DSG-
Used to be called “lux”, I think the later models changed name
Buy one.

ah so is the touran a more smaller version of the sharan and Alhambra then. Interesting i did not know that!

bit like the ford smax is a smaller version 7 seater then the ford galaxy which is a proper 7 seater.

ill have a look on autotrader for a sharan and Alhambra see what i find in my budget..full leathers etc would be nice
