Title: Hi I'm a new member
Post by: Brid on 10 April 2021, 09:31
Hello!
Hmmm how am I going to put this?  Not actually got a gti. Got the gt bit but with an e on the end. Look I know its not a gti but I've not owned a golf before and I usually come up with questions that only enthusiasts can answer so what better place than the gti forum!

Had the car a week or so and already have a non engine related question that no one can answer! If im ok on this forum?

Brid.

Welcome to the forum Brid.

GTE owners are most certainly ok on this forum. There aren't many of you mind, but lots of the tech isn't specific to the powertrain anyway so I'm sure you'll still be able to find help for all manner of things.

I'm a GTD owner, so a fellow outcast

I'm assuming yours is the new Mk8? We have a forum specifically for Mk8 related stuff here;-

Cheers fellas. No it's a Mk7.5 can't afford a Mk8

I will post my question somewhere now. It's just about the rear view mirror so not specific to the GTE

Welcome Brid

It’s good to see some different (related) models on here, GTE’s are certainly under-represented

What do you think of it?
For many of us, once we’ve owned a Golf of some sort it becomes hard not to own one!

Im loving the GTE so far. I had an Eos mk2 2 litre dsg before and the GTE is the same speed but without the fuel gauge heading south straight away.  Im worried that I was going to miss the Convertableness of the Eos so I found a GTE which was fully loaded including the sun roof.
I love driving on pure electric and am swapping my home tariff to be 5p per khw at night so it should be 1p per mile driving cost. The GTE suits my driving style very well as most journeys I drive at the speed limit and economically but if someone annoys me or Im in a fast driving mood I can press the GTE button and go.

You said that once you have a Golf its hard not to ever not have one, well as I said this is my first Golf so its early days. Im 50 now but when I was about 15 my sister had a mk1 Scirocco GLi which I loved. At 18 I owned a mk2 GL Scirocco and after that a MK2 cosmos blue Scirocco Storm.   I owned that Storm for about 8 years and only used it at weekends because of company cars but eventually sold it when my job and life changed,
I had mates who have owned Golfs including one who had a mk1 GTI back in the day but that and he have now sadly gone. All that aside I am now constantly look for excuses to go to the shops just so I can drive the car!

It sounds a very positive start with the GTE. It certainly seems like it’s got a high spec with the pano roof too. Hopefully yours won’t suffer the in pandemic of cracked surrounds.

I’m slightly older than you and my first car was a mk1 Scirocco GTI when I was about 18. I was absolutely mad on them when I was a teen. I wanted a GLi as they had lovely interiors compared to the more spartan GTI trim but the GTI was really rare, they can’t have imported many in mk1 guise. Mine had a hard life as it was thrashed and never cleaned!  In fact it was like a mobile skip when I was renovating my first flat.

I always planned on replacing it with a mk2 Scirocco GTX but ended up buying a mk1 1.8 Golf GTI which was an unreliable beast but ended up getting very modified as every time something broke on it I uprated it!

How jealous am I that you had a Scirocco Storm?!

I'll watch out for the sunroof then!.  Nice first car! Mine was just a fiesta at 17yrs old, had to wait for my first scirocco. Golf mk1s are really nice but I would love a mk1 storm in blue. What a car! .

Pictured is my baby at my Grans house all those years ago

A thing of beauty! Good to see the Storm is on the drive and not left out on the road!! Thanks for posting the pic.
Back in the day I used to see an X reg (so one of the very last) cosmos blue mk1 Storm around town. I’d have sold my own gran to buy that car back then I think
I did get offered a brown mk1 Storm (with tan interior) by a chap that had owned it for years and years. It was a very reasonable price but the leather had some wear holes and it needed bits doing to it so I passed on it. In hindsight...

I often see a grey mk2 Scirocco being driven around locally by a lady, it’s so good to see one still in daily use.
