Title: complete newbie with my golf. but i think i got a cracking deal on insurance
Post by: Tory on 13 May 2008, 14:50
Bought a 2.0 mk4 on saturday
Bearing in mind I'm 19 and only got one years no claims...

It cost me 600 quid

Note to everyone:
Put your mum and dad/anyone with more than 3 years no claims on the insurance

on my own it was a grand. but putting my 'rents on as named drivers it lowered it by over a 3rd!!!
the insurance is still in my name though

thought I'd just give that bit of info if people are struggling with finding the est quote

also try elephant.co.uk
thats who I'm with

lol yeah that was pretty hard to read!

always worth trying both with and without parents on there because as you say with some companies it does bring the price down....but some give discount for "insured only driving"

that does sound like a pretty good deal , please tell me you didnt get sucked into having a 10 month "bonus accelerator" policy with elephant tho....

So you want people to help you, yet you make it difficult for them.

Actually I think she doesn't need any help from us...more...giving us advice on what has benefitted her with her insurance.

She's helping us but making us work for it lol!

haha no thats fine, although all you needed to do was highlight it.

pink should be a more magenta colour
then it will add a girlie style to the writing ;-)

anyyyway- yes i didnt need help.. it was a guideline for any other younger drivers out there

it was cheaper to insure me on a golf than to insure me on a yucky 106 gti... which is only a 1.6 anyway.
insurance companies... confuse me!

a 106 gti is faster than a 2.0 golf

I bought my 2.0 MK4 when I was 19. Which is for sale btw, look at sig. Added the parents and all that jazz and managed to get it for about £1300 mark. Cant really remeber as that was a year and a half ago now, well worth looking into, and you can buy my old car :D Everyones a winner.

Sounds like a good way to get cheaper quotes, what insurance companys do this then? I tried Churchill but the quotes were the same.

Are you asking me Max?

I ended up with Elephant for the mk5 and Kwik Fit on the mk4.

That 106 was definitely f**ked then if a 2.0 mk4 is quicker

Indeed, with a 0-60 the same time as your average family wagon there's not much the 2.0 can actually beat.
Plus the 2.0 isn't actually a GTI i read somewhere. Which makes sense that it's only 115hp & the 1.8 is 125hp..

the 106 is 2 secs quicker 0-60 at least

I take it its ok to have rents on policy still even though i live at a different address to them, have my dad on mine, but not my mum as yet.

just halved my insurance its £39 a months now  with admiral im 23 3 year nc, 6 year passed test 1 "rents" on on a group 17 v6 car too

admiral alway give a discount. Insurance are crooks ha they alway discount once you ring up and waffle at them, saved over £20 a month  just from ringing up and saying churcill were cheaper etc and stuff. I alway get maximum discounts as there renual price is alway cheaky.
