Golf mk8 / Re: Mk8 software version poll
« Last post by Golf R owner on 24 July 2021, 23:42 »
Evening all,  I’m new to this forum and would like some advice. I bought a Golf R on Thursday. Manufactured in March 2021.  It has software version 1788 and I’ve had the ‘Emergency Call Service is faulty’ warning come up twice, if I turn the car off then on again the infotainment system just says loading settings. It appears if I leave the car around 10-15 mins, it all works ok again. Also had the climate control functions not load properly twice, meaning I have no control over it.

Does this all sound familiar. I understand from reading these forums the latest update is 1803.  However, when I spoke to VW they told me there is no update for my vehicle at the moment. So they would need the car for 48 hours to run diagnostics.

It seems the issues I’ve had are quite small compared to issues some of you have had.

The question I have is whether it is worth getting VW to look at the issues I’ve had or wait until a meaningful update is released?

Thoughts please.

Have to say I got into my car the other day after parking it - it was there for about 2-3 hours. When I got back in it the AID told me it was 40 degrees. Obviously that’s the outside temp but I doubt it was 40 degrees or we’d have been in the news!

It's the temperature of the road under the car... Which after you've been stopped is absorbing the heat from the engine...

Makes perfect sense

When my 7.5 has been sitting in the sun all day at work I can hear the small fan some where behind the dash going very fast for a very long time, I guess to cool the AID and infotainment, I do wonder if I'm supposed to be able to hear the hum from it as it makes more noise than the main AC fan.

To me it would make sense to divert some of the AC cold air to behind the dash to aid cooling as I can imagine that's it's roasting being in the full sun (bit like the glove-box cooler).

Just returned from my longest trip in my GTI, a week up in Scotland and well over a thousand miles covered. Car didn't miss a beat, and the ACC combined with comfort mode made the long motorway legs a breeze. It also returned just shy of 43 mpg at a constant 75 mph which is remarkable.

Then on the twisty roads up near the lochs I had a lot of fun with everything in sport mode. Such a joy to drive.

It just proves to me that the GTI is the perfect combination of performance, comfort and economy. Doing that journey in other performance cars I've driven in the past would have left me sore, deaf and skint.

Only downside is that the front of the car is now caked in dead bugs.

And that's why we buy these cars, the Swiss Army knives of motoring

What I find alarming is everybody just stood around videoing it and talking instead of trying to help the poor persons pride and joy

Keyless entry doesn't work properly on mine either. Only unlocks if you approach from the rear. Suspect it needs a new antenna module in the front...

Mines going back to dealer on Tuesday so hopefully gets all sorted

Bought some diffuser fins but having second thoughts......they're gloss and I'm not convinced it'll go with the valance trim....... perhaps a new valance is the way to go?

Here’s a handful I took in the last few days! Pictures really don’t do it justice though

Have a look at the Rieger Rear Diffuser (Photo credit to Zain Ahmed) IMO the it's perfect in between for standard GTI and the more extreme TCR, they do gloss black or plain black if you go plain black you need to paint it. I had a previous front Rieger splitter painted low texture black and it matched the original plastics perfectly.
