Had hoped to get an R next, but looks like I'll have to be sensible and keep my Gti till the end of its lease in 2.5 yrs time at least. Gotta buy a house and have an impending wedding

Nice to hear you sounding so upbeat about forthcoming wedding and house purchase

Your priorities are right though.  The R will still be there (maybe mk8) in a few years.

What can I say, I'm a bloke. I am looking forward to getting a house, but not so much the expense of a wedding!

I get you.

I've got no room to talk, been with my bloke for 23 years but never got around to getting wed.  Got better things to spend my money on.......like an R

Definitely the mk7 R next year.

Today, as fate would have it, a pure white R pulled up next to me at a local animal park.  The owner kindly let me have a look around and inside it.  Great to finally see one in the flesh.  Up close, the front looks very aggressive, there's much more equality between the aggressive looking rear and the front than is evident in pictures, photos don't do it justice at all imo.  It definitely doesn't look like a normal golf, as some have said.  Liked the brushed chrome mirrors and front lip.

Interior lovely too.  This car had the two-tone carbon/beige nappa option, which was nicer than anticipated but think I'd still opt for the all black leather.

Still need to test drive one, but absolutely loved the look of it

Weddings don't have to cost anywhere near as much as people generally spend. We had a few people at the church, a nice meal afterwards, then an evening do for everyone else at the village hall, all for just over £2k. That was 14 years ago, so I suspect it would be nearer £3k now, but even so.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.
