New tyres suggestions?
« on: 07 December 2014, 09:23 »
I know there has been loooooooots of discussions on tyres but without digging through each post would appreciate what your best tyre selection would be as i've now got agreement from my lease company that the Bridgestones are sh*t and so I can now replace all 4!!  :smiley:

Not looking for winter specific or longevity but all year round excellent grip tyres.

Hi I changed my bridgestones last week to Uniroyal Rainsport 3's. They are excellent in the wet with no tramping (PP GTi) and are as good as the Potenza's in the dry. Very happy with them so far. I recommend them highly. :rolleyes:

OP: You don't mention which size tyres you require.

Have a look at this link which lists all Summer Tyre Reviews:

Uniroyals are an excellent wet tyre, but at the cost of wearing quickly. Had a set on a lowly 100ps Polo 1.9TDI and they lasted 8k miles on the fronts. Anything except Bridgestones would be an improvement. Conti 5s, Michelin PS3s, Goodyear Asy2s are amongst the most popular available at a reasonable price if you shop around.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

I'm thinking Conti 5s or PS3s as my top two options. Cost is not a problem with a Lease car  :whistle:

I'll make this simple and say there's only 1 option for summer;

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2's.

And one for winter;

Continental Winter Contact TS830/850.

I use both. The Goodyears out perform the Conti 5's overall. The Goodyear is also the best all year round tyre as it consistently creeps into the top 3 on all tests.

I would stick with the Contis. They have been rated as No.1 in most of the tyre tests.

Interesting thread guys , I've had my gti for a month now and today had an incident due to the bridgestones! So biting the bullet and getting new rubber , but the tyres have to be a good all season tyres and the continentals review say they are no good for ice or snow conditions , or am I reading to much into it?

Contis, Michelins nor Goodyear mentioned here will be any good in ice and snow. For that you need proper winter tyres.
TCR, Pure Grey, DCC, Dynaudio and Climate Screen.
