Title: Car Mats
Post by: golf nutter on 14 March 2020, 08:25
Has anyone got any recommendations for quality floor mats that look OEM please?  thanks.

Why not OEM? often available on eBay at a reasonable price and you know they will fit.

I have a set from these people - https://www.carmats2u.co.uk/vw-golf-car-mats-mk7-2013-onwards-2486-p.asp

Good quality and you can personalise them. The twin red/black edging is very smart.

I read over on VWROC.com that carmats2u.co.uk actually don’t make their mats, but get them from carmats4u.com, who have a more extensive range and are cheaper than the equivalent mats from carmats2u.co.uk

Link discussion thread on VWROC.com;

Link to mk7 VW Golf mats in the carmats4u website;
https://www.carmats4u.com/tailored-car-mats/volkswagen-car-mats/vw-golf-car-mats/vw-golf-mk7-2013-onwards.html

For most of the mat types, you can customise them to your requirements - carpet colour, edging colour, stitching colour, and you can add a logo of your choice if you want to.

thanks i shall look at the links.  OEM rubber mats look nice but £100...they have the gti logo on.  not sure to go with rubber mats and swallow the cost or aftermarket carpet ones.

***went for the rubber OEM GTi mats...£20 cheaper in Germany  :smiley:

I've had the bog standard VW rubber mats in my GTi for three years and they are perfectly fine. Can't really see the point in spending loads of money on mats. eBay was the cheapest place when I bought mine.

I agree with the rubber mat theory...carpet mats will end up with flattened spots where feet have squashed them over time and discoloured...rubber mats seem to be the best option.

I got these which look great in my gti, good quality rubber mats. The only thing that was a bit sh!t about em is the gti square logo tis stuck in n I had to glue it in better than the sticky back plastic they used

If you want rubber I can thoroughly recommend these which I took a punt on from eBay. I have two young kids (6 and 3), and anyone with kids will tell you they literally do not give a F' about scuffing, dirt etc.... so 10k miles later they have stood up to the test! Very heavy duty, washable, and really good quality.

They no longer seem to sell them with the boot liner (I bought mine in a pack), but I think you can get that separately if you drop them a message..

I used to always have rubber mats, keeping the original carpet mats in perfect condition... for the next owner. Now my preference is to use the carpet mats. They seem to trap the dirt, unlike the rubber ones, which when dry, tends to roll about and get on the carpet underneath. Or when you get in with wet shoes, you end up with a puddle on the rubber mat, whereas the carpet mat soaks it up.

Regular brushing and vacing keeps them looking good, but as they do start to age, they are not that expensive to replace.

IF you click on the ‘seller information’, I see the seller is based in Germany. From what I’ve read on other forums, Monster Mats didn’t used to be available for RHD cars. I can’t see the eBay advert states whether the mats are for RHD or LHD cars, so hopefully they are for RHD and they’ll fit OK.

Slightly off topic (only a little), one of the only things I've never liked about the MK7 platform is the drivers foot area. Due to the "hump" behind the accelerator pedal, all mats I've ever seen (be they rubber or carpet), stop quite low down, exposing the carpet area above the mats to soiling from your feet etc.

I've always been on the look out for a set of mats that extend upwards more behind the pedals to protect that area but never fouind any.

Don't imagine many manufacturers want to make a mat that fits underneath pedals for fear of being sued in the event it happened to interfere with them and cause an accident.

Does anyone have a worn out set of carpet mats that they don't want?

I don't actually need the whole mats, just the four fixings that clip onto the studs on the floor. I have an aftermarket one piece mat in my Caravelle, but it has no fixings to hold it in place. I'd like to be able to clip it onto the factory floor studs.

I was going to post about this too. My carpet mats are worn out and I always like to treat my new cars to new mats as it refreshes the interior. The rubber oem ones I really don’t like they just look like something you’d see in a land rover not a semi luxurious hot hatch. Don’t VW do proper carpet ones with a nicely embroidered GTI logo that’s what I had in my head when considering replacements. My current versions are just plain black. Thanks.

They do have genuine mats that have red trim round the edge and a small GTI logo-not embroidered tho,it’s like a small label.
Think the were 1st available for the clubsport.
Managed to pick a set up from Ebay for £70,which was a good price at the time.

LOK,useless with links.
The part number is:-

The price was £130,but that was in 2017.
They look excellent,but they are expensive for what they are.

Autohaus Kunzmann,a German company sell them a bit cheaper,but check they’re not for LHD cars only.

IMO the genuine VW carpet mats aren’t the best quality and it’s not unknown for the the drivers mat to wear through in a relatively short space of time.

It might be worth considering some of the non-VW mats, like those at Carmats4u;

https://www.carmats4u.com/shopbymodel.html/?find=volkswagen-golf-mk7-2012---2020-302366

I’ve not bought these so can’t vouch for the quality. However, Carmats4u do use the VW fastenings, and they have a range of mats with prices varying depending on the weight / quality of carpet you choose. You can also customise the mats to your requirements (carpet colour, edging colour, stitching colour) and add a logo if that’s your thing.

How about these;

https://simplycarmats.co.uk/volkswagen-golf-car-mats-12266.htm

They also offer different grades of carpet, with the option to customise (carpet colour, edging and stitching colour). The ‘deluxe’ or higher versions come with VW fastenings to hold them in place.  Additionally, a heel pad on the driver’s mat comes as standard (you can delete it if you don’t want one, or change the heel pad to rubber for an additional cost). They also offer an (extra cost) option to add text which is embroidered into the mat.

Recently joined the GTI club and looking to upgrade from the plain black velour mats it came with, stumbled across these rubber mats you’ve got whilst searching eBay but the only place with stock currently is based in Australia and whilst I’m happy to pay £53 for the set I cannot justify £120 postage!

Spotted some Monster Mats from a supplier based in London but then realised those are LHD version, so am back to square one…

If your budget is around £50 - £55 and you’re specifically looking for rubber mats then these might be worth considering;

https://www.carmats4u.com/tailored-car-mats/volkswagen-car-mats/vw-golf-car-mats/vw-golf-mk7-2013-2020/volkswagen-golf-mk7-2012-executive-rubber-car-mats.html

They’re not a honeycomb design like the GTI ones in the picture you’ve posted but you can customise your order by choosing the colour of the trim around the edge of the rubber mats and colour of the stitching. I think customisation is included in the standard £49.99 price too. There’s also a 10% off offer today that would bring the price down to £45 - discount code COMEBACK10 and postage is free to UK mainland addresses for orders over £40.

I’ve not bought these or any other mats from Carmats4u.com so can’t vouch for the quality / durability, but at £45 for a set of 4 they seem quite good value. They also have other cheaper and more expensive rubber mats for the mk7 / mk7.5 Golf on their website too.

I've the Weathertech ones myself but I paid £120 for them as I bought them about 6 years ago, although I thought they were expensive then, I'd happily pay the £230 for them if I needed another set.

Very little wear on them and they're constantly getting heavy abuse.
