Did you replace the rivets with rivet nuts? Future proof the task

No, just re-riveted it, easily drilled out again if needed.The crappy seals have lasted 6 years, so it should last as long as I have the car.

Its like having my Mk2 again - there is always something that needs doing...

Just ordered a pattern part new mirror cap for mine after someone pinched it.

Any tips for covering the exposure back before it arrives? Initial plan is a sandwich bag or similar over the whole mirror with some tape to secure it.

Gaffa Tape, I used it on my cars before and as long as it isn't on for weeks it shouldn't leave a residue.

I was going for a sandwich bag and clear sailing tape for the fix before noticing the mirror cover in the gutter down the road. Someone must have passed to closely and knocked it off.

I'm relieved as that is better than my poor old golf being targeted for parts.

R600, plus intake pipe and turbo elbow and a Clubsport S backbox. Sounds great now, a bit more noise but nothing asbo yet if you put your foot down it comes alive.
