I swapped tanks on mine so I didn’t have to drag it out, cost me about £20

I thought about doing that but it is an easy job to remove it. I got a finger in there to move it within reach and then grabbed it with a pair of my fishing forceps.

I was just worried in case I ripped it when I pulled it out, clearly yours was ok👍

I was a bit worried, but you can clamp the bottom hose or drain and remove the tank to remove it then put it back on again.

Either way you can save the money by not buying a new tank.

I have just removed this blighter from the expansion tank.

It was in really good condition to be fair, but if it isn't there it cannot cause any problems...

Probably a stupid question but what are the benefits for removing this? I’m new to vw ownership so thought I’d ask

Occasionally they can split, and the contents then finds it's way into the heater matrix. That causes it to block and it is a big job (dashboard out) to fix it.

Mk7 Gti features in an autocar piece this week, in an article about “ cars I should’ve bought “.

The writer ran a basic spec 3 door manual gti as a long termer for the magazine, and regrets not having bought it.

I washed mine today, and threw on a coat of turtle wax ceramic spray. My enthusiasm for this car hasn’t reduced in nearly 4 years ownership.
Everyone should own a golf.
