Title: Servicing parts and a mot question
Post by: Pearce69 on 04 April 2012, 22:19
Hey all

Mot question...
Cars gone for mot and failed, needs two new front tyres. I was thinking of having a slightly lower profile on my P slots. Would it pass a mot if the tyres at the front are a diffrent profile size to the rear? Also what is the standard size of tyre on my 14" P slots and what size tyre would be good for them?

Service parts question...
Where is the best place to get service parts for my 1987 8v gti? Im wanting to do a full service including cambelt plugs filters ect...
Im also after putting a K&N panel filter in the airbox. Wheres best to get one of them? oh and what oil do i need to use?

Right.  Don't faff about like a numpty with different sized tyres on back and front.

Service parts you can get from anywhere.  Halfruads if your desperate, VW if you wipe your arse with £50 notes.

Euro car parts will give us 25% discount as forum members - check their section.

As for oil.

Eurocarparts are good value, I bought oil and a filter for £17 last week
Just be careful as they do list some stuff wrong, also check you don't have upgrades from other VAG models fitted like brakes or an engine

As mentioned before, 5ltrs of synta silver semi synthetic and a genuine filter for less than £20 from vw. Why go elsewhere and use alternate brands when its that cheap?!

Done my oil and filter change. Halfords filter and castrol oil 10w/40 oil was £15 for 4L on trade :) They didnt have a fuel filter spark plugs or air filter in so iv ordered the air filter with them (k&n) and got my fuel filter(bosh) spark plugs (bosh) and a continetal cambelt kit from eurocarparts with the 25% discount. Awsome lol. Made my own pollen filter today and i think its brilliant can put a pic up if anyones intrested.
