Buy, Sell or Scrap

Hello all.
I have a 2011 Golf GTI.
I am reliably informed that the engine is knackered.
I really cant decide whether to sell it or get someone to put a second hand engine in it.
Its in perfect condition apart from that. Surely its not scrap?!?!?!?!?
Please can someone give me the pros/cons of the options.

Certainly worth saving. Especially if you have had it a long time and it's a cherished part of the family. Has anyone delved properly into the engine to see why it's failed and if it can be fixed? Fitting a second hand engine of unknown history has its own risks.

If the general condition is as you say then sourcing an engine with warranty will probably be worth it if that is what is required.
You don't say what is wrong. Could the engine be repaired?
