Anyone else think of this when they read the name?

Nice find and an interesting read. The progression of hybrid tech really is astonishing!

The name GTE does made me think of those bloody awful Astra's.

That is interesting, it's an A3 e-tron in a golf, and therefore much better looking, body.

apparently 201bhp, 0-62 in 7 seconds and 188mpg.  I'd get one!

Wonder how much it will be though? Can't imagine it being less that £35,000. I would rather get a GTI/R and spend the change on petrol and having fun.

I think I read the e-tron will be around the £30,000 mark.

I think the big thing will be business leases.  Imagine the tax benefits from getting that!

This is true. There is no doubt the tech on these cars is impressive and will one day be the normal thing to have. One day the pricing will be competitive to average buyers.

First thing my Husband said was sounds like a crappy Astra GTE. I think this Golf GTE looks great. I really like the light around the fog lights area. But it won't be as much fun as the GTi…. I'll wait till they get the bhp & 0-60 better!

Another factor is weight. I bet the batteries and motor add some mass to it over a GTI. It's one thing going fast in a straight line but it's something else altogether stopping it and turning it. In my opinion these are the GTI's key attributes, not so much power in a straight line.
