This is proving more difficult then I thought. I purchased one but the pin holes on the back don't match the plug.
Any advice would be great

Dont forget the 4 wheel alignment check.

Yep will do. Save burning through another set prematurely!

 Hi guys,

David from blackpool here, and i have just bought a 1991 mk2 8v GTI.
mammoth trip on the train to the south coast followed by a 6 hour trip home in the Golf.
I think it was worth it though as i love the car.
not without problems though, it drove lumpy as hell all the way home, but a few hours fettling the next couple of days putting things right and it now drives like a dream. (ISV valve stuck ,temp sensor disconnected and timing out, oh and no rev counter)

checked the basics and the dash is now away being repaired.

love the car though and can’t wait to get out and about in it.

always been a fan of vw and my daily driver is a T-ROC R

looking forward to chatting to you all.

David

They are gunmetal and like you, I deliberated for an eternity over gunmetal vs. silver in case gunmetal was to dark. I’m so glad I went with the gunmetal, looks great (imo and the tyre fitters) and does not look to dark against the indium grey. I think the silver would be to bright, just my opinion.

V helpful thread as I think I have the same problem in my mk7.5 that I picked up yesterday. Booked in at Kwik Fit for new rear tyres tomorrow. Will let you know if it cures the problem!

The centre caps are 56mm - got mine (used) from eBay - originally from a Polo(?), in as new condition - see below.
Also ordered some 56mm stickers from Ali Express to go over the plain black plastic caps that came with the wheels just in case the original order didn’t fit but they’ve not arrived yet.

The original Parker’s are awaiting to be cleaned and then I’ll sell them on.

Thanks Adam👍🏻 are they the gunmetal prets? I’m torn between gunmetal or silver , Iv not seen the silver colour on anyone’s car? Iv got the iron blue colour car and don’t know if the silver will be too bright?

Thanks for that Nino, I might give that a go , sourcing the paint might be the hardest problem for me here .... i think the marks are from the lady owner with her diamond ring bling!!

Golf mk7 / Re: AC leak...

The oil that is in the system as standard should pick up under UV light. Certainly when I had a leak, it was fairly obvious where it was coming from in a dark garage under a UV torch. Didn't need any specialist die to be added.

The only difficulty might be that some of the pipes go behind the firewall and then I assume you'd need some sort of camera that can feed behind the dash. Definitely start with under the bonnet though- that's where pipes, condenser, seals etc have to deal with the elements and stones being kicked up driving.

If it was me, I would be hitting that with the paint repair method.

Watch this step by step, looks scary but I promise you, its easy.
