I very nearly bought an Octavia vRS CR DSG the other day, until I discovered that it would only tow 1400kg.

The hunt is on now for a Passat Sport CR DSG with xenons for less than £20k.

I might just have found one. It's done a few miles BUT it's a 170 with xenons, nappa leather, heated rear seats, panoramic sunroof, heated front screen, electric tailgate, electric tow bar, nav... and is well under my budget.

The spec is outweighing the mileage at the moment, I just hope it isn't stone chipped and swirlled to hell or been obviously painted.

Well that was a waste of time. A 150 mile round trip. Lovely looking car, great spec and a reasonable price, but look a bit closer and,

Bonnet peppered with stone chips
Front bumper miss-aligned
Small chips and scrapes on most panels and rear door handle
Big scuffs on top of the rear bumper
Two wheels with chunks out of them
Not the tow bar as advertised and only 7pin electrics
Grubby interior covered up with valeters goo
Filthy spare wheel and wheel well

And the salesmans comment "what do you expect? It's done 48,000 miles" My Passat is cleaner than this one and it's nearly 9 years old and done 108,000 miles.

The problem is, the cars I would like would be nearly £40k new. I don't have £40k
