Hi guys..
I currently have Toyo Proxes T1-R on my car and love them but the compound for me seems so soft and i can kill them really quick.. the good thing they only like £36 a tyre..
My friends have told me Yokohama Parada Spec 2's are a better tyre and at only £46.50 per tyre maybe a good investment.. These will be used every day but also for some fast road driving and hopefully by end of the summer a track day or two..
I would love to have R888 or Federal RSR etc but in reality im not spending £100 a tyre on my car and i want tyres i can live with for commuting and my mates RS with R888 has a lot of road noise..
Are there any other better grip tyres for around £40-60 price people recommend ??
195/45/15

Have a look at Michelin or Continental. Might cost a bit more but will last a LOT longer then T1-Rs and will grip bloody well.
-
To be honest you won't get great grip for around £60, I run Goodyear Asymmetric 2s which cost £121 each and they are excellent...
Personally rubber is something you shouldn't really skimp on as essentially that's what keeps on the road...just my appinion Of course!!

Have use tried Yokohama spec 2's.. They have so much grip they about the same grip level to my pirelli's that were on my cooper s.. I just looked at conti and michelin and looking about £75-80a tyre..
The reason your tyres expensive fella is they not likely to be as small as mine lol

Oh yeah....the light bulb in my head just went off lol...
On the Yoko spec 2s tho yeah Ive had them on a set of 18s and the were excellent!!!

Supposedly dire on track days though.

any reason ?
-
They overheat easily and the rubber just peels off them.
-
Well my starlet only 180bhp so i dont think i will be pushing them to their max lol.. I can imagine thought because of the tread pattern.. i would R888 but £105 is a bit steep as wouldnt want to run them all the time as they not the best in rain and cold weather

AVOID Parada Spec 2 for track use. They are awful tyres on a track car, they simply break up and delaminate.

I wrote this review a couple of years ago http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Article/2010-Reader-Track-Day-Tyre-Comparison.htm but then tried some Pilot Sport Cups. Since then, I haven`t run anything else, I think they are superb. I need to update that review.. :embarassed:
I also highly recommend the Kumho V70`s.

Bit too wide for me i quite like the 195's.. How much they set you back i can imagine a lot ?? for a person just starting out on track is there a more budget tyre you recommend as i cant imagine the mk2 and my starlet cant be a massive difference in weight ??

If you are starting out, I`d buy some part-worn track tyres. Any of them, 888`s, A048`s, DZ02`s, V70`s etc.
If you only have one set of wheels, try some Federal 595`s. They seem to get a good review for a road / track tyre. Not a full`R` tyre, but OK if you need to cover wet / dry days. Just be careful not to overheat them.

Thanks mate.. I might get spec 2's for every day and then another set of wheels for some track orientated tyre as they can go between starlet and mk2

Spec 2s on track.....

To be fair, that shows very little - R888s will look similar when spanked on track.

2nd set of rins and tarmack rallye tyers, there not road legal but there cheep and some of them are bloody good

Any more information ??
And the above picture most tyres which have a lot of tread when you go on track do that.. Been reading into tyre shaving which would likely solve most of that problem and make the tyre last longer without peeling..

I'll put in another vote against spec 2's for all round use.
Good grip in the dry, but had mega understeer on a cold wet november tourist lap...
And can be shredded quickly when warm (dry).
-
ive got michelen pilot exaltos on, only done 1 trackday and they are sh!t hot! dunno how much they are a corner cause i bought them on a set of wheels.
-
tarmac rally tyers, last set i picked up for a mate were £ 160 for 4 fitted.
as they arrn't road legal they seem to be a lot cheeper for what they are, they are avalible as new or remoulds obviously the remoulds are quite a lot cheeper but they work well. avalible in loads of compounds and tread patterns or as slicks
the issue is finding someone who stocks them those that do don't advertise it much ether except in local motorsport mags so can take a bit of finding, they can be sods to fit on the rims unless theyve been warmed so if buy unfitted be careful who fits them. sizes they come in can be limuted due to what events the local motorsport clubs run but 195/5015 and 205 /50/15 can normaly be found without much bother
