Been running these Toyo's through Summer & still good now.. Stick well in the dry & shed surface water brilliantly out here on the sh*te Cambridgeshire roads.. By far the best £50 tyre me thinks.. I'd also like to hear about others tried & tested..
eBay's good for me.. see item No. 150356029464

Mine came with BF Goodrich Profiler 2's. In little bit of driving I have done in it, they have performed really well. As for longevity, and cant really comment as i have done less than 600 miles this year.

My previous Mk2 had Yokohama Prada Spec 2's (albeit 195/50/15's) They gave superb levels of grip in the dry and were not too shabby in the wet. They wore reasonably well for me, but then I figured if I was wearing them out quickly, it would still cheaper than wearing the 17's out on my Passat.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

uniroyal rainsports supposed to be good, ive used toyo proxy t1r and s, both good. eagle f1s go without saying.

howevewr I'd recomend you go with 195/50 tyres instead, much cheaper and common size, yet still specced by VW for the MK2 :)

they'll fit right ? i've never fitted over sized tyres before, surely it would be better to source 185/55 r 15's if possible ? - i have been offered continental premium contact 2's for £76 each fitted.

blimey u r right about 195's being much cheaper though, i can get toyo 888's (which i have used in the past on trackday porsche's) for that money and toyo proxtsti-r's for £47 each

yeah they will, as i saay they are specced by VW, if you look in the back of zee owners manual they're listed in there as well as the 185/55 ;)

Its all I've used on my MK1 and MK2, no problems at all.

I'm using Continental Sport Contact 2's also, no problems and very happy with them.
