Winter tyres
« on: 18 December 2010, 11:16 »
It has been claimed in the press over the last few days that some drivers who fit winter tyres to their cars to cope with the recent weather conditions in the UK, have been told they will have to pay up to 20% extra on their insurance premiums!

While winter tyres should be much safer in the snow, some insurers have been incorrectly classing them as a modification and charging increased premiums, or in some cases refusing to offer cover.

According to the ABI (The Association of British Insurers), as long as the tyres are fitted in accordance with the manufacturers instructions and by a reputable garage then you should not be charged anymore. An ABI spokesman stated that "the confusion may be through call centres, where that information is not getting through".

No such problem here at HIC though as we will not charge you a penny more on your premium if you choose to fit winter tyres, we clearly see their safety benefits and all of our staff are fully aware of this.

Cheers
