The RS motors are all well and good. But servicing/parts etc are frightening.Even brake pads will give you a fright.
I know a guy who an an RS4 for a while. He found a friendly Audi Tech who did work on the side and got parts at cost price. The bills were still high enough to make him sell it.
I think they are good motors to run for a year and then punt.Like C63 AMG Mercs and the likes.

Yeah but if it's your Lotto car, such bills won't keep you awake at night 😄

Saw a Golf R Estate today. Not a fan

Agree, they are hideous.  Not seen one in the flesh yet, but lots of pics on another forum confirm my original thoughts about it.  The back end is truly horrible and not much better from the side

The problem is, cars of Golf proportions do not suit an Estate shape. I think the Audi A6 and VW Passat are good lookers in estate form (some would say even better looking than their saloon versions). But the Golf looks "wrong" as an estate IMO. It's too narrow, wheelbase too short, it clearly looks like a hatch with a box added onto the back.

You sum it up perfectly Joe.

Agree, the Passat and Audi (and one or two others) look much better in the estate variant.  The R estate is the hatch with a box bolted onto the back, it does not look like a car designed as an estate from the ground up. In short it transforms it into one ugly car.

And away from all that, and I've said it recently I think, as a purist, IMO a hot hatch should NEVER be an estate.

You haven't seen an R estate yet? Where we are moving to in a few months in Stratford Upon Avon there are 6 R's on the road and two of them are estates. Personally I much prefer the estate to the hatchback. I am biased though as I almost always prefer estates over their saloon/hatch models. For every GTi I see I see 3 or 4 R's, they are everywhere around here. I was at my dealers last week and they had 5 new ones waiting to go out. They are like the Focus ST of VW

You say a hot hatch should never be an estate. It isn't, it is a hot estate and saying it is ugly is a bit much although I'm sure you meant in your view. If I was getting an R I wouldn't get an estate but that is down to the estate only available with the DSG gearbox.

VW could have put LED lights on the rear of the estate though.

Gave the car a proper snow foam and two bucket wash for the first time since October...absolutlely covered with 5000 miles of dirt and general grime - everything a quick spray with a jet lance can't get off

Gyeon Cancoat sealant is holding up very well, I must say

Gave my car a thorough washing for the first time since the tyre change. With all the toothpaste-like tyre mounting gunk now washed off I can see that one of my wheels has a tiny flake of paint chipped off the rim edge, I need to get a touch-up set suitable for the Prets paint - has anyone managed to get one for the (LZ49?) paint code without paying an arm and a leg for it? There are some specialist mixer places on the net that will do you a kit for around a tenner plus postage (which is fine), but I haven't seen anyone get a match without buying a £40 tin from Lepsons. Any recommendations?

After the wash it was clear that my C2V3 coat is thoroughly exhausted, so I gave the car another coat before it started to look a little dark.

Haha!  Yes that's just my view on the R estate, who else's view would it be?  R's are common, thanks for reminding us again, as you GTI owner's seem to feel the need to on a daily basis, lol.

No I haven't seen an R Estate in the flesh, but then there aren't many R hatches, or GTi's round my way either (I must live in the Bermuda Triangle for R's ).  But the R Estate - whether not a hot hatch estate or a hot estate, it's proportionally wrong, it is the hatch with a box added on.  There's much better looking estates out there. I've yet to see a photo, taken at any angle, which makes the R estate look good. Why?  Because it doesn't.  IMO.

A balmy 12C this morning and half of my 20 mile commute being stuck doing 50mph behind a lorry and a convoy of slow cars ahead of me unwilling or unable to overtake saw my best ever mpg for a commute - 35.7mpg. No ill effects on mpg from the extra sticky michelins by the looks of things.
