if a jobs worth doing......
« on: 10 December 2006, 17:24 »
is it just me or does there seem to be a bunch of 'specialists' cropping up selling off crap?! or am i just getting picky and obsessive in my old age?! i just find it increasingly annoying that when you put your trust in people and buy parts for a job that turn out to be useless or that fit poorly or who's finish isn't up to scratch.
i'm not saying i'm the daddy when it comes to modifying vw's or am some sort of expert but if i pay good money for something i'd expect it to be what i wanted, not some half assed effort. this is half the reason i do everything myself and now i'm beginning to think i might as well try and source my own parts rather than using so called traders. i often get the feeling we vw nuts get a raw deal and pay over the odds for substandard parts because we don't know any better?!

so i think from now on i'll be doing my own research, sourcing my own parts and where possible doing as much as i can myself.

not wanting to put a downer on anyone in particular here or pointing the finger but just felt like having a rant!

I know where you're coming from, my MK2 is at a 'VW specialist' having a power steering rack fitted. I've fitted the pump, brackets, pipes, resevoir etc. All he needs to do is swap the rack, UJ and rubber boot. I don;t have the facilities to drop the subframe to do this. he got it on 26th Nov and promised it would be done in a few days.

Called relentlessly and found out friday he hasn't looked at it and its still a field next to his workshop, probably sunk in the mud now as well. Poor BBS....

Its 15 miles from my house and has no mot or tax now, he's had it this long. Promises its done this week....

Like you say, if you want a job doing.....

Well after all the Crap weather is over and Christmas is out of the way I will be in a posistion to get started on mine... I hope to have better luck with it and will no doubt be on here a bit more...

As for sh!t jobs I used a close friends garage all the time till one day they had my car to service and then at the same time put the window through trying to fix it as it wouldnt go up all the way..! What can I say thought they was mustard but in the motor trade you can never be sure!
Who wanna get halfed up by a half wit
Who got a gang a problems
And dont give a half sh!t b!tch

Yeah! And maybe expand the "Good Guys" section with a list of good suppliers. Those that supply top notch parts.
We all know the bigboystoys and volkspares etc. but its the smaller ones that dont get recognition.

Joe, did you know that G-Werks are now sourcing BBM products direct? They seem to have a very good reputation.
Will they have the bits you need though?
