Having only been able to read this thread for some time (lots of great tips mind) I can finally take a more active interest! Collected my GTI today and went for a nice day out! So far driven it as only a granny would but did manage an average of 36.7 mpg! Love it so far but as someone who is not into all the computerised bits and bobs, I'm struggling a bit with all the gadgets. Will consider a few accessories to begin with, mud flaps and wind deflectors. Has anyone fitted the wind deflectors? Do they reduce buffeting?

Congrats Watts!
But I think you've forgotten a little something?
Especially with such a nice colour and set of wheels to show off.
Hint, hint.

Thanks Exonian! Unfortunately the weather has been against me so far. Still, had plenty of opportunity to test out the wipers! Bit smeary, may look to change them for those Bosch jobs that have been recommended on here.

I've had two mk7 Golfs now and neither has had any wiper smearing issues.
Try wiping the blades down with a paper towel to remove any cleaning solutions.

Wipers were supposed to be improved from the earlier Mk7's so interesting to hear you are finding them smeary.  I will most likely replace them on mine with Bosch Aerotwins as these have never let me down, unlike the oem Valeo ones which seem to be a bit hit and miss.  Don't know if you've applied anything to the windscreen but I've always found it better to leave it free from products which can make the wipers judder and squeak.

Anyway, more importantly, and as Mr Ex has already hinted at........the pics of said car??  A bit of rain is no excuse.

Still driving like a granny, was on the M3, very quiet, looked at the speedo and I was doing 65! Obviously I am a very law abiding person but even so.... My OH was telling me to get a move on. Perhaps I should have got a 1.2 instead?! Still, some benefit, 42.7mpg average today on a mix of roads and a fair amount of heavy traffic. I shall do my best to correct this asap!

Any way, as demanded:

I shall give that a go thanks, quite likely to be stuff all over the screen and blades. The dealer did wash the car and it looked great but there was little attention to detail. I'll look to get it detailed soon.

Car looks great.  Tornado red always looks superb when clean and shiny.

Enjoy!

Red and Santiagos is always a good look :afro:
Hopefully Mr Lookers Bear doesn't get his fur too ruffled sans window deflectors?

Thanks all, I was smitten at first viewing.

Exonian - no need to fret, Mr Bear is shoved very tight into the passenger door bin and is very safe. I'd have preferred head first but that request was vetoed!
