Puddle Lights! - Now available - Page 5!!
« on: 27 August 2008, 12:32 »
Hi Guys

Was having a look on Foxy's website the other day and saw his puddle light mod...
For those who don't know what they are, they're LEDs which go in the bottom of the wing mirror and come on when you open the door, the circuitry keeps them on for about a minute after the door is shut so you can see your way in the dark and avoid 'puddles'!

After hours of playing with transistors and capacitors this is what I came up with:

The unit goes inside the doorcard, one wire goes to ground, one the courtesy light wire and one to permanent 12v. The final wire goes to an LED in the wing mirror, if you look underneath the wing mirrors on the Mk4 there is a small black plastic plug which pulls out and the exposed hole fits a 5mm LED perfectly!

What do you rekon?

Good idea!

Get it installed and show some more pictures of them working.

Then sell them to people on here and eBay and make lots of pennies!

The LED is white and one of the brightest I could find so it casts a good light on the floor. It's always possible to drill another hole in the base and add an extra LED for extra brightness. The actual base of the wing mirror (black plastic) is separate from the rest of the wing mirror unit (attached by 2 screws) so I'd supply those new with the LED(s) already attached. Anyway, I'll get some pics later on for you to see.
