and to top it off, someone's nicked your airbox!

hard to say about that engine mount, give the engine a rock and check it for movement... new top mounts and bearings from vw are about £15 a side, and you want to do both sides at the same time.

If I grab hold of the engine mount I can move it a lot with just one hand.

time to upgrade Bob

THS Engine Mounts

Both Rich and Wazzzer run these and rate them highly.  I've driven Rich's and there is no slack!!

I'm tempted to try them in mine

but as Toph said get your top mounts changed

I don't have the spring compressor to do the top mounts myself  :undecided:

I've none of those either.  I shall have to take a small trip to Halfords and nosey around I think!

If I give VW a call and tell them I want golf mk4 top mounts and bearings, reckon they'll know what I mean?

Best to say front suspension strut top mounts and bearings, and give them your reg# so they get the right ones.. some of the parts guys can be a little dense. Don't forget to ask for discount.. might save you a fiver.

even easier, without compressing the springs

you wont be able to do the bearings this way but those would be making a twanging noise rather than a knocking

you want me to get you the part numbers Bob?

Just fitted a set to my mates car at the weekend, took me about an hour this time round. He was very happy with them on the way home!
